~~~~~IMPORTANT SANDYBRIDGE OC INFO: Voltages & OC Guide!!~~~~~
How do you setup the MSI GD65 to be more power efficient at idle, mine still pulls 1.296v and runs at 4.5GHz. I enabled SVID and it didnt do anything.
Im not sure on how you set the vcore to idle low but the frequency just enable the energy features like c1e etc
Is CPU-Z a bit bugged?
Never overclocked before so I just did a novelty attempt of 4GHz on my 2500k.
I'm 100% sure I manually set the BCLK to 100, but it always shows as 99.8 in cpu-z. Also voltage always shows as 1.056 even if I run superpi or something which makes the cpu hit the 4GHz (or 3991 because of stupid BCLK).
Yet in BIOS it seems to say 1.200 V-core.
Which version of CPU-Z are you using? 1.56 doesn't show the voltages right for sandybridge chips, you need 1.56.2 for that. Also, expect to have a little lower Vcore than it says in the bios because of Vdroop.
tancients what cooling are you using please ?
The hyper 212+. Just a single fan and heatsink, nothing fancy.
I just wish I could find a way to manually control the PLL on mine. :/
Could get lower temps and voltage usage. Maybe dropping the vdroop to low would help? I've only got high/low/disable as options for it.
Version 1.56.2 has not been 'oficially' released yet though, has it?
There is no mention of it on CPUID's website.
No, it's still a beta, but I've not had any problems, but it seems to show the voltages right. Can't remember where I downloaded it from though, think someone posted a link on this thread earlier to it, or if you can't find it anywhere, feel free to send me a trust message, and I'll attach it to an e-mail for you.
pretty amazing @ 4.5 with the voltages your at , i noticed when i put a diff multiplier in the bios it automatically ups the cpu voltage, also i turned ht off, and left ram at auto, if i use xmp settings the temps go up allot.
what bios verison are you on mate?
msi has a new beta bios 1.8b10 that seems to resolve the not save in bios issue.
the mei might need to be flashed as the m-tool in bios dosnt flash the mei firmware only the bios.
Last couple of nights ive started prime 95 blend test, checked it in the morning after 12 or so hours and prime always seemed to have crashed with a "program is not responding" message.
Ive 1.525 going to the ram (ram at stock speeds) and slightly over 1.3 going to the cpu. I done a 13 hour small ftt run a while back and it was fine. :confused:
Well, you have a 2600K and I only have a 2500K, so that's likely a large cause of the differing voltage. Not sure what to say on the temps though. My ram is rated at 9-9-9-24 @1.5v, so it's actually performing much better with XMP enabled.
1.7. Not too interested in trying to flash the ME though until 1.8 becomes an official release (the supported boards listed for the bios while it was in beta didn't include my C45).
well ive got my 2600k arriving tomorrow am, I will be sure to abide my your limitations ( at least until i can afford to replace it )
thanks for the info :D
results will be posted.
I have CPU-z and it is showing as version 1.56.3? It was downloaded directly from their site.
Regards voltage. Just how much VDROOP is there? Im running an Asus P8P67 Deluxe and tried 4.3Ghz with upto 1.3 set in the bios and LLC at high. Voltage as per CPU-Z was down as low as 1.24. Also when it was idleing at 16 x 100 the voltage never dropped.
At the moment I am running on auto overclock of 42 x 103 BCLCK and it has passed LinX and 2 hours of Intel burn test no problem.
