Which setting in the BIOS increases the vcore under full load? MSI GD-53 motherboard by the way.

I'm trying to get 4.7GHz on my 2500k with 1.35vcore, but when I run LinX CPU-z tells me the vcore shoots up to 1.4v, which I don't really want - even if I'm just stress testing.

Same thing happens to me with P67A-GD65! The MSI support says that the difference 0.02~0.04V is normal and nothing to worry about :rolleyes:
I'm not sure about it, MSI boards lacks the offset mode as well...

This is their answer. Not sure if they know what they're talking about...

Have you measured the voltages at the monitoring point on the top right of the board?

Yes I did and it shows ~0.008V more than CPU-z.
At the moment I have it OCed to 4.7ghz @ 1.365V. Bios AND CPU-z shows 1.376~1.392V in idle(!) and up to 1.424V when stressed. The £20 multimeter from ****** shows ~1.432...
That's not right is it?
 
To be honest as long as it is stable I wouldn't worry. 0.008v isn't going to make any difference at all.
 
If you have VDROOP on it will increase the voltage under load, try setting the idle voltage lower in BIOS to get a lower vcore under load.

(if that's what you're aiming for?)

...but is 1.424V nothing to worry about when stressed?

If you have VDROOP on it will increase the voltage under load, try setting the idle voltage lower in BIOS to get a lower vcore under load.

The VDROOP is set to "Low VDROOP" in bios. There's only two options: Auto and Low VDROOP.

edit: watching flash video raises the voltage to 1.392V...

Low VDroop is what you want it set to.

1.424v is fine, Intel are always overly cautious when they provide guidelines and lets remember that is all they are. It isn't like you will be stress testing it daily so for gaming, encoding etc it will never hit those values for long.
 
my i5 2500k on a gigabyte P67A UD4 B3 mobo seems stable at 4.4ghz and 1.32v just had to enable cpu pll in bios everything else on auto apart from obviously setting clock ratio for the turbo mode to x44 so it still clocks down to 1.6ghz at idle.
I'm using a noctua NH D14 cooler and idle is 30-32c and 51c max i have booted up at 4.7ghz 4.8ghz and even 4.9ghz and run cinebench 11.5 but i know its not stable at these higher clocks as at idle at 4.7ghz i popped out & came back to a blue screen.
The gigabyte bios's are a bit flakey still and i am currently running F3d which seems to be the best bios for me at least so far.
My sandy bridge setup coupled with my gtx 570 is an awesome gaming rig and i can see a huge difference in FPS in games having upgraded from a phenom 940 quad core,
but no difference when Overclocking from 4.4ghz to say 4.7ghz so i dont see the point of potentially killing my cpu for a few bench mark runs.
 
Might sound like a really silly question, but I have ordered a 2600k , 8gb corsair xms3 2000mhz ram and a gigabyte ud4 board.

Question is. What is CPU pll?
 
My first board did 4.5 @ 1.25v I was Happy
My new B3 ASUS P67 Deluxe blue screened after a few Hrs of black ops at same settings
BSD after an hr and 5mins just as I was about to quit prime so now playing with it some more. just shows not all MB's are the same lol
 
can now boot up at 5ghz at 1.46v without problems and game and cinebench (score 7.80)
Decided to lower it to 4.6ghz at 1.39v incase i was killing it lol
 
guys i have my bclk at 103.3, to allow my ram to run at 2200mhz, an overclock from 2133mhz

if i am reading op right, simply setting my bclk at anything over 100 will damage my stuff? seriously? so i cant oc my ram freq at all?

Not sure, I have mine running at 103 too, I have read elsewhere that people are running this safely up to around 108 to 110, but you do have to be careful - I think most people are safe at below 105 but I wouldn't guarantee it, at the end of the day Gibbo probably has to play things safe due to warranties etc... What is interesting and the reason I run mine at 103 is that the Asus turbo settings auto set it to 103 anyway, so I figured that should be fine if Asus are OK with it! :)
 
In the end, I got my i7-2600K stable at 4.8GHz @ 1V - 1.448V (offset mode) on Maximus IV Extreme board, with few other settings tweak or enabled.
