Solved: Improve SSD performance?

Afternoon all,

I've been running a 120GB SSDNow V+200 as my boot drive ever since I first put together this machine, and I've just installed a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB to run my games from.

I ran a benchmark to see how the new one was performing (just to make sure all was well) and the results are below - the Kingston drive looks pretty crap!

Any suggestions as to how to improve the Kingston drive's performance? It's got the OS and all my programmes on it at the moment - I'm going to leave it that way, and only run games from the 850.

Your suggestions would be much appreciated,

Hugh

whats the read/write specs of the Kingston?

the evo will always be quicker due to it being a larger drive

also if its a sandforce controlled drive it might favour atto benchmark, something to do with non compressionable data

Found the original ad from OcUK on it: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18431294

- Max Read: 535MB/s
- Max Write: 480MB/s

So massively under-performing. It's been in use for around a year and a half, though I purchased it back in Summer 2012. How might I tell if it's Sandforce controlled?

Thank you for your thoughts Wazza

I think those drives are,try in atto benchmark and see what it says

17mb free space might be slowing it slightly aswell, you would restore any lost performance by secure erasing the drive and re installing windows or cloning it to/secure erase/clone back from a spare hdd,but it might still wane over a few months time,my corsair force gt ssd would do the same

Here they are in Atto - Kingston on left, Samsung on right:

So that looks like it's pretty alright as it is! Unless I'm not understanding the results (this is the first time I've benchmarked SSDs)?

Any need to do what you suggested in your post Wazza?

it looks alright in atto

its upto you if you wanna secure erase it,aslong as it feels fast in windows I wouldn't worry tbh
