Improving wifi connection and speed

I'm currently with Virgin media with a speed of 600 meg running in modem mode. An ASUS RT-AC3200 router provides the majority of the Wi-Fi with devolo power line adapters around the house also. Most of the adapters have relatively great speeds except one.

The new installed devolo adapter is in a new part of a large extension and has woeful speed to the unit and the Wi-Fi is terrible (dead spot in the house with all the steel beams etc).
I'm looking to run a cable outside and back into the new extension area. Id like something that would give me much better Wi-Fi speeds and also the ability to plug in directly to a TV and also V6 box possibly other devices in the future.

Would a patch cable although very long suffice or would I be best running a cable then crimping/making up each end ?.

Thoughts appreciated.

If you are using a cable not in conduit, make sure it’s external grade, for the sake of simplicity, run two feeds if you are using conduit, for the small price difference it’s not really any extra effort and if anything did go wrong with the first run, you have a backup. Terminate it into a faceplate with either a surface mount or conventional back box, it’s beater and it’s easier to replace a patch lead than it is to re-crimp leads if the connector snaps etc.

Run it round as per your plan, add a switch on the end of it and then plug an AP into the switch. You now have a wired connection for the V6 and any other devices that will be capable of gigabit and be reliable and a WiFi AP that can provide WiFi to additional devices. To answer your next question, I would historically have suggested something from the Unifi range, however Ubiquiti are in the middle of shooting themselves in both feet at present, and the pricing on the Honor 3 or Huawei AX3 is such that it’s hard not to suggest them as budget WiFi6 AP’s (£35 delivered, but I can’t tell you where, so please don’t ask).

Yeah I was looking through the Ubiquiti thread here on the site and was looking to possibly buy one but with the current issues there having Ill look perhaps elsewhere, I did like the wall mountable idea though and could have hidden it behind the TV which has also been wall mounted.

The issue I have with hiding things between a wall and TV when it comes to wifi is it's a really, really bad place - a solid wall and a big RF shielded screen are not going to help your signal strength/range. Numerous other AP's are designed to ceiling mount and look no more obtrusive than a smoke alarm, you could equally go with an older Unifi AP and flash a *WRT based firmware to it, the EoL ranges are getting cheaper and cheaper now for obvious reasons.
