Is a big old steak fillet around 16oz.

I have made a glaze consisting of:-

Butter warmed in a saucepan till its melted, added some freshly ground peppercorns, some garlic cloves and added a pinch on nutmeg.

I have brushed this over the top of the steak and put it in the oven to cook. I normally cook my steaks in my big wok, but I thought I would try oven cooking it for a change :)

I have cheated with the chips and grabbed some frozen one from the freezer as I didn't realise that we didn't have any potatoes in the cupboard.

Looking forward to this, I will give my feedback once tasted.

My mother always used to cook steak in the oven when I was a child. I don't recall exactly how she did it, and sadly she isn't still with us to ask. I thought I would give this a try, I do remember she used to cook onions with it, ah well, if it doesn't work out too well I have another 2 large steaks in the fridge and 12 in the freezer and pan frying will ensue.

EDIT: Surely it cannot be bad, when I cook a roast beef dinner the beef is cooked in the oven too, albeit I do cook that in a big glass oven dish and cook with boiling water and various herbs depending on my mood, but I thought I would try oven cooking steak, the meat is effectively the same.

I cooked it at gas mark 7-8

Weird, my post didn't register.

Steak looks really nice. Seems to have come out just fine. Just missing some bearnaise, grainy or French mustard and a few home made onion rings :)
