In this thread...

Maybe you just don't want a Porsche. I thought that would be quite obvious

It's like asking me why I'd choose an underpowered rusty old hotrod with no side windows or heater over a 5 year old BMW 5 series.

Because everybody must drive only one car in each class and price range as dictated by the OcUK german car club. Driving one of the other cars in the class which is not regarded as the prime choice shall be punished by ridicule and contempt.

The R8 is probably the superior car. Mid engined and 2 seater in v10 form. And it isn't ugly but those plastic bits on the side are a bit off, style wise it reminds me of the Lamborghini Gallardo in that it is the car for footballers. It will look dated quicker than the current Ferrari or Porsche Turbo.

I'd probably take both. Use the Porsche when I need more than 2 seats. But then you would ideally want a Ferrari 458 for the 2 seater option. Luckily a problem I am not going to face any time soon.

R8 - looks better and Porsches are just far too common

Audis are common too. Not that I'd ever buy a car just for rarity value, cars are normally common for a good reason bar a few examples.

However, I've only seen one Porsche Turbo Cabriolet in the flesh, ever.

I'd want to like the Porsche more, but I'd be a moron not to try both cars before spending that sort of money.

Why the thread? No reason really, just noticed they were both the same price.

For me though, it would be the Porsche. Audi for me just makes me think of horrible 4 cylinder diesel engines. Which is weird, because they probably sell as many of those as BMW do, but... Audi = 2.0 TDI Slinzzzzzzzz.

Whereas Porsche make sports cars.

R8 is ugly. 911 every time.

Would rather spend the money dumping a big ol LS series engine in a Sagaris and properly sorting it to be a really, really good car, mind.

So if you drove both back to back, felt the R8 was the better car, you'd still buy the 911 because of the 'image'?

I've absolutely no idea, I doubt I will ever be in a position to purchase a £115,000 car (Unlike half of OcUK I am not under the blissful illusion that I'll be driving a Lambo in 3 years time).

Yes but to joe public a Porsche is a Porsche, they cant tell the difference between the models whereas everyone knows the R8 is a supercar :)

When I'm spending that much money, Joe Public can **** off :D

Some people think the TT is a supercar. In fact some people have problems telling the TT and R8 apart from some angles!
