So I just caught the first episode of this... oh deary me. Unlike the Office (US) which stands up on it's own, tries to do it's own thing and does it well, this crap is a line for line / scene for scene remake of the original - only the awesome dialogue is now gone due to lolamerica.

The only saving grace is Will's mum being of course, insanely milftastic. But beyond that it's pretty painful to watch. :(

It's just like when they tried to remake skins that was another line for line carbon copy that just didn't work.

Shameless US is a line-for-line copy, yet somehow I think it's much better than the UK version.

I guess some things work, and some things just don't. *shrug*

its the one us remake i prefer to be honest, yet all the other remakes like being human, skins, inbetweeners, the it crowd are all garbage

First season on The Office (US) was a line-for-line remake.

I'm guessing they're just doing it for a test. They should start doing their own thing next season. Having said that, I have no intentions of watching it.

The Office US grew into itself over time, first few episodes were very weak but it actually became quite good (fading a bit now), it hasn't ever hit the heights of the UK version but it's still worth watching. I'm hoping the Inbetweeners could be the same although it does look like the actor for Will has been badly miscast, my wife says (and I agree) that he isn't nearly ugly/geeky enough.

They did the same with Skins didn't they? Word for word / scene for scene of the UK series. But with American actors. It's probably because of that horrible language they speak in England. Nobody can understand it.

It's bad because we know what it could be. There are two issues with yankee remake. One, they did not understand characters. Teacher is no longer scary and jaded. Will is no longer the "he will never get a girl in million years" type, Carli is no longer out of Simons league. Neil is no longer gullible simpleton, but a dumb imbecile. Jay is no longer sleazy mythomanical sex addict, but a fat lamer who lies a lot.
Two. You can not remake inbetweeners and play it safe. No swearing, no outbursts of slang name calling, no repetitive allusions to briefcase "mazda engines", no American equivalent to word amalgamations involving "bum" or "lez" or spastics. And finally no famous c word anywhere in sight. It's so clean, polite and stripped from teenage dirt that it just isn't funny, despite being almost word for word duplicate of original script.
