All being well I will have an X34P arriving in the next few days. I'm hoping this will a) help me work on multiple documents at once more productively, but also b) reignite my interest in games.

I've only played Quantum Break this year I think, and the 11 hours of playtime took me three months to get through.

So, when I get all set up, what are the best games to wow me back into the PC gaming fold.

I have a 980Ti and I generally like, well, most things except for racing games, beat-em-ups, platformers and rogue-likes.

Especially a fan of RPGs and open-world games, but also enjoy a good FPS/TPS action game and strategy games.

I am eagerly awaiting ultrawide glory!

Have a look in the Ultrawide screenshot thread found > here <

I would suggest having a look at ;-

Doom - Warframe - Any of the last two Tomb Raider releases - Alien Isolation - Forza 3 or 4 - Pillars of Eternity II - Divinity Sin 2

World of Tanks ? Battlefield ? Star Wars Battlefront ? Warhammer Total War ....

tbh the list is endless! have fun with the new monitor gaming on ultrawide is superb.

Cool, cheers. I am very excited!

Some lovely looking screens in that thread!

I've played Doom, Alien and Divinity: OS2, but none of the others.

Will look at the Tomb Raider games (quite liked the first reboot, but never got around to the next two).

PoE II - I did really like the first one, so that could be one for some Xmas gaming this year.

Oh, should have specified SP only as well.

Getting impatient now. I haven't felt this excited about PC gaming for a long time. Still no dispatch notice, though!

I'm not sure how long ago you stopped gaming but games I've enjoyed playing include Rage, Dying Light, Alien Isolation & both Metro games. They can all be found on key code sites for a few quid nowadays so if you haven't played any of those take a look.

My must have games in 2019 are:

Resident Evil 2,
Rage 2,
Dying Light 2 &
Metro Exodus.

Welcome to the Ultrawidemasterrace :D

I've only been a member for a few weeks but it still blows me away every time I boot up a game!

To the games already mentioned, I would add Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Final Fantasy XV, Battlefield 1, Company of Heroes, Borderlands, Mad Max, the Tomb Raider games...the list is endless!

If you didn't already know, http://www.wsgf.org is a great source of info for UW gaming.

Go watch a movie, its nice without the borders

LOL - Yes, this, this and this :D

A simple thing but somehow gives you the feels :D

21:9 offers something "different" and it feels it too. An alternative to the "same but faster" mindset.

Sports games and racing games are glorious in 21:9 if that is your bag but any FPS or RTS is outstanding.

Dying Light - You mention open world games, you have to try this in 21:9. A time sink.
Doom (2016) - Superb 21:9 support, so much so, worth playing again in 21:9.

PPS:
Overwatch sucks, 21:9 is "cheating" apparently - Go figure.

The Tombi's, Rise, Shadow, and 2013, they look great in UW, as do the Metro games, Last Light and 2033, alo GTA V, which looks fantastic, and Dying Light, as mentioned.

As above, Flawless Widescreen is a must have, and theres also a YouTube channel thats got lots of UW info, he tells you if games are supported in UW, how they run, and if they need fixes, and what they are etc..., its called WAF, im surprised hes only got about 18k odd subscribers tbh, as really good info, great way of finding out about the latest games.

Nice! I've played some of these suggestions, but now have the ROTR and SOTR firmly at the top of my list. I'll pick up ROTR when my screen arrives, I think.

I didn't really think of films on it, and I hadn't even twigged it would mean no more letterboxing! I've ripped all my films in 1080p so far, though. Hope they won't look pixelated at higher res.

I've had Elite on my Steam wishlist for years, but I've totally lost track of it. I remember people complaining it felt incomplete and empty on first release, but I'm guessing it's been patched a lot over the years?

This thread has also made me fancy a bit of UW TW: Warhammer. Good to be looking forward to PC gaming again!

Also, re. upgrading my GPU... ;(

I had wondered about that. It looks like my 980Ti will be on the edge of delivering acceptable framerates. What to go to, though? 2070 for £450ish seems reasonable, but I'm a bit alarmed by reports of failure rates of the 2*** series cards. 1080Tis are still too expensive, sadly.

WAF youtube channel is useful for 21:9 info. I have a Sapphire Vega Nitro 64 which handles nearly everything at 3440x1440 with a Ryzen 2700X. I upgraded from a 980ti.

The Total War series, Forza, and Doom look great in U/W!

You will be fine with a 980ti! It’s not like it’s a slow card :) you might just want to drop AA a smidge
^^ The above. I used a R9 Fury X for over 3 years on a Samsung 21:9 3440x1440 monitor without problem. Sure, had to dial down on the settings and couldn't run all maxed out, but it was still very much playable. So for now use the 980Ti and save up for a better card sometime along the way. But of course, in the end it's up to you ! :p
