Incoming ultrawide, my first game(s) should be...

You will be fine with a 980ti! It’s not like it’s a slow card :) you might just want to drop AA a smidge

^^ The above. I used a R9 Fury X for over 3 years on a Samsung 21:9 3440x1440 monitor without problem. Sure, had to dial down on the settings and couldn't run all maxed out, but it was still very much playable. So for now use the 980Ti and save up for a better card sometime along the way. But of course, in the end it's up to you ! :p

Good to hear! Don't need any more expenditure for this upgrade!

Another vote for Shadow Of Mordor etc. Really enjoyed it in 21:9.

I enjoyed SoM, and I can imagine how it would look great in UW. Will add Shadow of War to my list, though.

This is going to be the busiest gaming Christmas for many a year!

Clear answer as always is the same as when I chucked a 1080Ti in mine: Faster than Light! Stress that system! :D

:D I have been doing that for the past year or more! 980Ti to browse the net and use Word!

But when is this display going to get here, dammit? Payment has been taken now I notice, so hopefully not long now...

********! ******* *******!

So the place I ordered from, which still had stock listed after I placed my order and took four days to take payment has decided that they don't have any stock of the X34P after all!

*******! I could have bought it from an alternative etailer for the same reduced price if not for their decision to list a deal for which (I now learn after speaking to them) they only had five units available with no indication of this limit and their subsequent decision to for some reason take five days to notify me of this!

My (admittedly currently hot-headed) feeling is that this is bait advertising, followed by bait-and-switch sales tactics as they tried to get me to consider an "alternative" after taking my money.

So there has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth in my house, and much (calmly-delivered and detailed :)) venting of my frustrations on the phone to the company.

All the discussion in this thread had really whetted my appetite for some UW eye candy, too! :(

Now a new dilemma... I was happy the monitor was worth £638, but is it worth the £750 OcUK have it listed for? And do I wait to see if any deals emerge tomorrow (though stock seems to be limited most places now).

Grrr!

Was it **** if not they have it listed around that price.

It wasn't, so thanks for the heads-up!

(Have starred out name in case it upsets any mods - you might want to do the same before incurring their wrath! I really appreciate the pointer, though, cheers!! :D)

EDIT: Having no prior experience of that company, I just had a look at reviews and...er... I've never seen so many one-star reviews and complaints for a single company ever. You expect people with complaints might be more motivated to write reviews, but this surpasses anything I've seen before. For such an expensive purchase I am discouraged. £120 more at OcUK, but maybe that's worth it...

This thread made me want to get an ultrawide again granted I do love my 240hz 24” 1080p screen for competitive stuff!

I will consider getting one again next year!

Sorry to hear that. Once you do get the screen I imagine something like an fps/rpg should be very good, though I've yet to experience it myself. This thread has kindled my interest in adding one to the shopping list as well!

Yeah, it sucks!

Hoping the X34P or AW3418DW pops up on a Black Friday deal somewhere I'm happy to buy from tomorrow. The X34P is £750 at OcUK right now. Not a bad price, to be fair, but one that puts me firmly back in should-I-shouldn't-I territory with respect to choosing an UW or a £300 cheaper 1440p display.

This thread has made me want an UW all the more, but £300 is a fair amount of difference in price, especially this close to Christmas and all...

Well, that indecision didn't last long!

Seeing it come into stock on the website and then the number in stock go down spurred me into action. Order placed.

Well played, OcUK. Well played. You win this round :)

Ok... so monitor arriving over the weekend (:D) and I'm spending time between work phone calls having a quick look through Black Friday games sales.

I'm not going to have oodles of gaming time (family and full-time work being what they are), so top of my list for now are:

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Assassin's Creed: Origins
Shadow of War
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Nice mix of FPS and open world there. But... no RPG or strategy.

Thought about Pillars of Eternity 2. The base game can be picked up for around £15, which is good, but are any of the expansions must-have? Is the Obsidian version (or whatever it's called) recommended?

Also looked at Total War: Warhammer, as that is around for less than £9, which seems a bargain. Is it worth the extra tenner to go straight into two, though? And again, any expansions/DLC needed to get the most out of it?

I really should clear my existing Steam/Origin/Uplay/GoG backlog, but I want some things especially to enjoy in UW, so I've set myself a £50-75 pre-Christmas gaming budget for today's offers.

If you want a great RPG I'd recommend looking at Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition, currently on sale on Steam for £7.49, utter bargain.

And get its sequel as well DOS2, also on sale.

Both support UW out if the box and look stunning.

Yep! Played both and loved both!

I might try Path of Exile since it's free, but there are no party-based RPGs other than Pillars of Eternity II grabbing my attention right now. I might just nab standard edition and hope I'm not missing too much with the DLCs.

Star Citizen, Free flight weekend starts today.

The MMO aspect puts me off, but I'll keep an eye on it as I've not played a space game in many a year.

I'm thinking of going the other way! Frame rate versus eye candy........1st world problems.

Actually thought Destiny 2 looked pretty good on the ultrawide but I picked that up when it was free.

Total warhammer 2 + 1 can be had for £30 via key sites. If you get 2 make sure it's the edition that includes chaos and norsca.

So, over lunch I ended up buying:

Assassin's Creed: Origins
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Middle Earth: Shadow of War
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Not bad for £38 or so.

I remembered I still have Total War: Shogun 2 to play, so hopefully that will scratch my strategy itch when I need it to (hopefully it has ultrawide support...).

With these games, the monitor and a graphics card for my eldest for Christmas, this is definitely my record Black Friday outlay. Exciting though! Roll on Sunday (and please have no dead pixels or excessive BLB...)
