Induction Kit vs MPG ?

You guys are mean :p

Drilling holes in the air box will give an induction roar but your going to be sucking in hot air from the engine bay, which will most likely bog down the acceleration.

if you want the noise of an induction kit you can always buy a second hand filter cover and drill several holes into it, its supposed to make it sound better.

On a serious note, that is a cheap way of getting the same noise, and probably not losing as much power from heat soak as a cone filter.

It really wont make any difference mate, only noticeable on more powerfull cars that have been mapped to suit and have an exhaust to get the gasses out, turbo cars especially. Not 1.2 fiestas unfortunately

Fair enough - just wondering. You may laugh, but it's very nippy 0-30, and with Eagle F1's on it'll go round corners like nothing on earth. I was just wondering if there was a relatively easy way to liberate a little more power.

omg lol the funniest thing ive herd today, let me drive it and youll soon change your mind lol

Obviously you don't drill them on the engine side of the box :p

The little 1.25i 16v units do respond better to having the existing airbox drilled.

What year is your fiesta? Mine was a 2001 (MK5) and had the airbox at the front of the engine, after a few months of a K&N i put the airbox back on and it responded better. With the airbox being at the front of the engine aswell, it sucked cool air straight in from the grill.

Where is the airbox located on your fiesta?

As agaisnt using a cone filter drawing air from?

The engine bay..

I think what Mr_Sukebe means, is that with a drilled airbox, your are less likely to draw in hot air (if you drill the sides furthest away from the engine) that if you put an air filter on, which exposes every possible side/face to the heat from the engine.

id say trade descriptions, how does a cone filter = an induction kit?

to be honest if u want a bit of a growl that brings a smile to your face and abit smoother power delivery why not grab a K+N universal filter, prolly cost you about 30-40 quid new and do a half decent job.

Sorry to hijack thread...but rather than start a new one on exactly the same topic question....would an induction kit help much on my dturbo? (i assume i'd be hard pressed to hear it above the diesel clatter :D ) but is the science slightly different for diesel engines or would I be better just leaving it with the standard air filter?

That filter will suck in hot engine bay air and almost definatly give you worse performance. Get a K&N panel filter to use with the stock system if you HAVE to fiddle with your intake system.
