IndyCar 2012

Franchitti's boost isn't working. Rahal has a look but doesn't get through.

Edit: Simona about to lose a lot of time to blue flags. Oh wait, the Lotus engine will take care of that on the straights :p

Looks like James Jakes has a terminal problem, pitted twice in the last few laps.

Will Power up to 6th past Ryan Briscoe.

Hildebrand passes Carpenter. de Silvestro makes an early 2nd stop, emerging a lap down on most of the field.

Edit: Pitstops aplenty so the live timing is struggling to keep up.

Castroneves has emerged ahead of Tagliani, followed by Sato, Rahal, Franchitti, Briscoe, Hunter-Reay, Kanaan and Wilson. Will Power finally makes his stop.

Edit: James Jakes' trouble confirmed as suspension failure. Will Power re-joins in 4th.

Takuma Sato is on a charge, takes second place and goes after Helio Castroneves. Oriol Servia leaves the pits but he's 6 laps down.

Edit2: Power and Tagliani side-by-side fighting for third place.

James Hinchcliffe having a mediocre race in 13th, just lost a spot to Mike Conway.

Sato and Castroneves gradually opening a gap to the rest of the pack.

Sato looking quick.

Hopefully he keeps his head and doesn't banzai\cause a caution at the last minute or something :p

Edit: Conway on the move again, up to 11th ahead of Simon Pagenaud. Most improved driver award? :)

Helio Castroneves with a new fastest lap, maintaining a sub-second gap to Takuma Sato.

Edit2: Dario Franchitti with another fastest lap, down to under 1:17.5. Tyres getting quicker as they wear in, other drivers have set close lap times.

Takuma Sato sets another fastest lap (I guess RLL's coaching over the radio is working :p ), and Helio responds by defending with push-to-pass.

Simona de Silvestro entering the pits for a late stop, re-emerges 2 laps down. At this rate she'll have the distinction of being lapped by everyone but Servia :p

Edit: Both Sato and Castroneves using the P2P heavily now. Only 3 laps left. Oriol Servia retires with mechanical problems.

Castroneves had to work for that one. :D
Him and Sato were very closely matched.

Still great to see Sato doing well as well.

Well, that's Helio's second win of the season. The championship's gotten a lot more interesting these last few races.

Hunter-Reay now on 361 points, Castroneves second with 339 then Power with 336.

That was an oppotunistic move there from Kimball... Deserves the 30 second penalty.

Although, that the way it should work, before the trophys have been handed over - penalties have been sorted.

So that's what happened to Pagenaud on the last lap. :p

Obviously it's not ideal when it happens, but I'd rather see a justified post-race penalty than the F1 situation where Maldonado gets off very lightly.

Yea it didn't quite pay off for him went for it caused a collision and gets penalised for it as per the rules much more straight forward... Although it sometimes isn't quite so straight forward.

Yeah, they got the calls wrong in Toronto for example. Generally speaking though Indycar do penalise reckless moves.

Didn't realise that a season of Indy running a team only costs something like $20 million for a top team...

HRT and Marussia spend around double that...

Ferrari & Red Bull - 20 times that.
