IndyCar 2012

Nope, hated that too.

Its diluted a bit as we get less adverts on the UK coverage using the US stream, but it does mean you either get big periods of silence or 2 sets of commentators. But their ability to focus on almost everything except the race bugs me. They like to show panoramic shots of the surrounding area, or cut in videos of drivers talking about stuff while completely missing whats going on on track. And the fact every camera angle is sponsored by someone difference.

But talking about commercials, are there any on the SSF1 coverage? I'm on lap 26 and haven't had an advert yet...?

I agree the Indy coverage needs improvement (perhaps SPEED need to get involved), but IZOD as a whole isn't exactly awash in money so they have to pander to the sponsors to some degree. As for NASCAR, haven't watched it recently.

No idea, don't have access to Sky Sports.

The guys commentating on the SSF1 coverage (well, filling in the gaps in the US stream) just recapped something 'for the benefit of the Sky Sports 2 viewers', suggesting SS2 has got adverts while SSF1 doesn't. I'm an hour into the race and haven't had an advert.

Edit: Just as I say that, SSF1 goes to an advert.

Wow, these guys seem incapable of getting the race restarted. 3rd caution in a row...

Less street courses next year would be great, and yes, the incident handling was poor in Sao Paulo today.

The F1 channel's a premium extra. I certainly don't see enough value in it to pay above and beyond a package price for it.

Lol, are these guys not meant to professionals? The lap 60-something restart was just pathetic

These cars need better anti-stalls too.

Yet this race had less retirements than Long Beach. :p

What do you make of Ana Beatriz? I think she was doing pretty well for someone of limited experience until getting caught up in that incident.

I find IndyCar really difficult to read. People who have done well in other Formula's can stuggle to shine in IndyCar, while people who excel in IndyCar (or CART, like Bourdais) can look amerture in other Formula's. From what I saw of Beatriz she seemed to be doing ok, but the result of that race seemed to be down to pure luck for anyone caught up in an accident. The cars stalling and then having to be manually restarted meaning its pot luck as to whether you go 1, 2 or even 3 laps down is just poor. They need to sort that out.

And does anyone think there will be anyone running Lotus engines come mid season?

I don't think it is so much the need for better anti-stalls, it is more to do with the fact that 90% of the drivers have always driven with a foot clutch, and this year they have moved to a hand clutch, which I think is more difficult to depress when you take your hands off the wheel in a collision.

True, but F1 has hand clutches and the anti stalls on their mean most cars stay running when they go off track. Having to restart 8 or so cars is just a pointless delay.

F1 still needs those roll hoop cameras. It's brilliant.

Agreed. Does each one have a separate guy with a joystick controlling them throughout the whole race?

Well, at least you're not outright trashing it like F1 snobs are prone to do ;)

SB graduated from European formulas though (to be exact, winning French F3 then International F3000). He's also got a strong record in LMP1. I think being put alongside Vettel in your rookie F1 year would make anyone look bad, and don't start me on Helmut Marko :p

I agree, they need a better clutch system.

I think Dragon will switch after the 500, because quite frankly it's making Bourdais look poor...

To be fair though, they don't really help themselves. IndyCar do leave themselves open for slating with a lot of what they do.

But above all else I am a motorsport fan. I like racing. I'm not going to let car snobbery or anything get in the way of watching some good old fasioned wheel to wheel racing. Plus I like things that are new an interesting, and this years IndyCar is most certainly 'interesting' :D.

I wonder if any of the Indy500 will be shown on SSF1...
