Infinity Eclipse or £5k self build air cooled?

Hi again

Scott's 4th option was actually a very interesting one...

Ex demo SuperNova Mk 1:

SuperNova Mk1
Hand-picked Intel Core i7 3930K clocked to at least 4.7GHz.
Asus Rampage IV Extreme X79 motherboard.
16GB Team Xtreme DDR3 2400MHz.
3x Nvidia GTX Titans in Tri-SLI.
2x 512GB Plextor M5 Pro SSDs in RAID 0.
4TB of mechanical storage.
Modified Case Labs Magnum STH10 with 8Pack customisations.
1200W Corsair power supply.
Custom Dual loop watercooling (8 radiator space for the CPU & motherboard, as well as 6 spaces for the graphics cards).
Aqua Computer USB fan controller with system monitoring.
£6979.99 inc VAT

It's definitely a very tempting offer but wondering if I would be missing out on a build (even though I'm too scared to go WC).

Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

Well that looks good actually - 2k over budget though? That would destroy games and rendering etc. Would it not be possible to swap the 3930k out for the 4930k? Not much difference but if it's only a £20-£30 difference it might be worth it - if a lot more probably not due to the minimal performance increase.

It actually looks beast though :o

@op if you have that sort of money, you should go for it. I would if I had the money.. the chance to own a system 8pack himself has cherry picked parts for and customized / overclocked. Hell yeh!

Let us know what you end up doing — I hope you get the machine you want !

Do you still get the 2-man delivery team etc? Still, looks like a beast computer and a great deal, if you want to spend the extra 2k go for it! :o

If your current rig is only 2 years old, I doubt you'll need more than updated monitors, GPUs and PSU. You should be able to afford 2x R9 295x2, 3x 4K monitor, and a suitable PSU.

The current rig is going to a new employee who will also be working on lightroom etc.

Plus I need a new toy...

I love the idea of the 8 pack system but feel I might be losing out on budding the rug myself...

That being said, I definitely wouldn't be confident enough to go watercooled. I probably would be doing the new components a disservice..

pfft no contest build it yourself or have a system designed and built by 8pack and his team.

the world champion clocker gets the nod in my eyes :)

I don't think ocuk sell rugs :D

Once you've built a watercooled rig you then become much more adept at fixing any issues. The riskiest part is blocking the GPU's but OCUK will do that bit for you :)

Also, you get soooo much more for your money with a self build it's ridiculous and with the money saved on NOT having someone build/oc it for you you can stick another GPU in :D

Crikey

Sorry about that awful auto-corrected post...

I'm absolutely torn at the moment.

I think I can justify the budget needed for the 8pack but can someone come up with an air cooled (or watercooled rad / fan like the pre-built loops) rig for the same budget including some bells and whistles?

Then I'll definitely have something to think about...

I've witnessed first hand the absolute lack of patience and know-how when it comes to building me own machine. It ends up being a "that will do" job rather than something I am 100% happy about. Spending this much money, I really want to do things properly.

Hope I'm not coming across as lazy. Just feel it's better left to the experts.

if you want things poperly and cant be bothered with building your own system then i can vouch for overclockers build quality it is top notch i bought a system off them 4 years ago as i had the money , and its still going strong now with new gpus added will last me another couple of years, then im going to build myself as i love building them :)
