Info regarding UT3 on PS3 and 360 from Mark Rein

"Nothing has changed at this point...we're working toward a November release."

"We don't know the specific release date yet and I think it is always prudent to remind our fans that we value quality over release date. They've come to expect that from UT and we don't want them to think we're handling UT3 any differently."

Rein: UT 3 on PS3 to miss a few maps as PS3 doesn't have resources for smooth gameplay

Epic's Mark Rein has commented that the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be missing a few maps in comparison to the PC version. Rein said that the reason that some content will be left out is simply because the PS3 doesn't have the resources to produce a smooth gameplay experience.

Mark Rein said that they are shooting for a November release and did say that the PS3 version would have "most" of the content that would be found in its PC brother. He said that there would be a couple of maps that would be left out of the PS3 version simply because the system didn't have the resources to produce a smooth gameplay experience. But rest assured, the classic Unreal Tournament modding could still be performed and uploaded to your friends. Rein even told us that there were plans to allow for players to release mods for sale on the Playstation Network and that the most popular mods and maps would be compiled and sold in an updated Unreal Tournament 3 package later down the line. We'll have much more on Unreal Tournament 3 as its holiday release date draws closer

looks like even PS3 user will be paying for their maps after all

Wait a minute... so all this time I was saying that, just because a Blu-Ray disc has 50gb doesn't mean it can run it all well... that I was right?

Well I never :p.

hows this for a solution :

a single player disk with all the single player stuff (obviously :p)
and a multiplayer disk with all the goodness of multiplayer maps and stuff

sound good? btw, this is for the xbox 360 version :D

It's not the maps that are the problem, it's the textures and sounds. Now, considering most maps will all use the same or similar textures then that would be the major space taker, so 2 discs wouldn't resolve the issue.

I was also unaware of a SP mode, I figured it was the same MP arena maps, just with bots?

hmmm, i have only played UT 1 nokkon, and that had a sort of SP.

guessing this wouldve had the same, but i wouldnt know so sorry for posting that.

but couldnt you just have like a thing where you can install the textures, sounds, blah blah on the xbox HDD? I dont know how my 20 gb one would handle it but could it be a possibility? and then ofcourse you have all the maps on a few disks?

WTF? So after that E3 trailer it still might not be coming out in November?

Fantastic.

Well theres a little known fact that at one point this game had the title Unreal Tournament 2006, then that became 2007 then it became UT 3 now all of a sudden they dont know if they can get it out for nov. Funny how the name changes seem to coincide with release slippages. :p

Think ill give this one a miss anyway, looks too much of a case of same game better gfx.

Can't be bothered to read the whole thread, but it seems pretty obvious to me from what Mark Rein in saying that if there are any maps missing from the 360 version, they will turn up as DLC. The point he was making is a game can be bigger than will fit on a DVD and they make up the extra space by using your hard-drive and downloading the content.

Anyway, why anyone would want to play such a fast shooter as UT on a gamepad is beyond me - I'll be getting this on PC and saving a tenner too.

I agree, can't believe anyone would consider getting this on a console. Stuff like Halo and CoD are one thing, UT is quite different.

I have a Hi Spec HTPC and a 360 Elite under my lounge TV so i'll be getting UT3 on PC.

Don't be fooled joypad wagglers you can't and won't ever beat a mouse & keyboard combo especialy for games like UT :)
