Insane rent increase.

Your house is an end terrace with a larger garden, both of which are usually considered more valuable features. How much more is the question to be sorted between you and your landlord

If you get to 16 May and nothing has happened you just continue to occupy on a periodic tenancy.

Indeed I have found an end terrace with slightly larger garden because is around 10% more than a mid terrace with smaller garden. Especially as end terrace has direct garden entrance without going down a little walkway or similar for things like pulling bins out etc.

So a house around this was is £900 mid terrace and around £975-£1000 end terrace. I would say the difference between £725 and £855 is a little high since the previous difference was £30, however I could easily see that being £800-£810 tbh.

So 10% more would be 797.50. scary.

The other end where it's end terrace think he's paying less than £700 though.

Indeed but also the sales value and purchase price is higher too. For instance a mid terrace next to me value is £230k, my end terrace value is £245k so there is a true value difference there for the landlord too.

It's a free market. So. It's up to you if you think its fair or not?

Your options seem to be
- contest
- move out
- accept it

It doesn't really matter if its fair/right etc unfortunately

Unless there's some law I don't know about worrying about what others rent is is irrelevant

FYI I own my home and am making tons of easy unearned capital gains, so I'm not personally bitter about losing out or anything.

You should distribute all of that to the less fortunate, such as those who are renting or purchasing property for the higher prices. It’s unearned and therefore you have no right to it, based on your logic.

My rent went up from $1800 to $2100 a month. We looked at moving closer to my job, as I have an hour drive each way. But we would only be saving $100 a month and still have at least 30 min drive to work. A comparable house in the city where I work is around $3500 a month.
Luckily this is my last year renting. We are buying next year.

You wouldn't just be saving $100 a month you'd be saving an hour a day in travelling too, 5 hours a week at even a lowly $20 an hour would be $400 a month in time saved, unless you don't get paid at work ? Too few people value the time spent commuting into their wage pack
