Hi guys, I've been seriously looking into buying a Vauxhall Insignia VXR on a 10/11 plate. i feel for a car that new their a fair price for what you get. but is there any alternative's anyone can think of? I'm looking for a nice fast car before i get old and worry too much about the cost of running it and what i look like in it haha.

I don't want anything 'chavy' this is the main reason i like the insignia, it's a smart looking car with a fair bit of punch, not to mention i can count on 1 hand how many of them i've actually seen driving about, it's very rare.

so what's everyone's thoughts?

Valid point Fire lol, should have really put that. preferably between 12-15k
i personally don't think the insignia, even with the VXR badge is chavy.

Insignia VXR is one of those cars I really quite like, but could never quite own myself. Although it's rare, to 99.9% of the worlds population its just another Insignia.

Smoove.. that's what i'm asking. what else is there with this kind of performance? besides something like an M3 which i persoanlly don't like.

Hyburnate, funnily enough i was actually looking at these (not the estate though) but my old man has one, all be it not the vRS but i coudn't deal with having the same car as him lol.

12 - 15K will get you a nice BMW E92 335i. It'll be older than the VXR and obviously no four wheel drive. There is also the equally rare Saab 93 Turbo X and the 93 Aero 2.8 Turbo both of which use a similar engine to the Insignia VXR. Again a bit older, but will be much cheaper to buy.

Same as any other top end model of any car surely? :)

This is a fair point, however although an M3 is still just a 3 series with an awesome engine, it's still a "prestige" (term used losely) marque where a few more people will know what it is, and not a Vauxhall. Slightly biased opinion though as I will freely admit to being a bit of a badge snob :)

I'd consider the VXR8 at this sort of price point

Lot of car for the money. The problem is with the insignia is that its still got the same 2.8 turbo V6 under the bonnet that the Vectra VXR had. The engine is already pretty aggressively tuned and i found my vectra with the same engine to be unreliable. The actual build quality of the car was fine - it was all engine and drivetrain issues I had and would never recommend one to anybody as what was worse was that nobody was able to fix the issues because the engine isn't very common and isn't used anywhere else. Tried several local vauxhall dealers and all had no regular experience with them. Dealers see them once in a lifetime

Your Alternatives would be:

Audi S4
BMW 335i
Vauxhall VXR8
Mondeo 2.5T
Octavia VRS

not sure about your chav comment, as most of the fast saloons could be considered chav due to their appeal of being fast, but not as conspicuous or as expensive as a comparative used 2 seater sports car. The VXR brand is the epitome of chav (speaking as an ex owner I know the only people that will comment on your car will be the chavs)

In race blue, detailed perhaps some different alloys they can look a world better than the norms ;)

if you're going to look at the Mazda 3 this opens up a world of 5 door hatch box. Mk 2 seat leon, Golf, Focus etc..

But these are equally as chav as the other cars mentioned ! personally I'd drop the chav criteria and just buy what I liked the look of and enjoy driving and knickers to what anybody else thinks about them being chav.
