If you want 5 door but slightly smaller you could look at the Mark 2 Mazda 3 MPS.

Yup this is the route I was going, why I was asking if iut had to be a larger car.

I'm 23. Things like an m3, 335i and S4 come out at 1500-1800 and I just refuse to pay that. 1000 is my absolute limit and the insignia would only be 880. I'm fairly sure insurance company's make it up as they go along.

Mazda 6 mps is fairly good to insure, but you're not gonna get a 10/11 plate one unfortunatley.

Mk2 3mps is a good shout if you'r happy with a slightly smaller car.

Older car, but what about a Mazda 6 MPS? All wheel drive, 260bhp & quite discreet. Although out of all the cars suggested so far a VXR8 would be the one for me <3 (if I could afford one :D )

mk 3mps ~9-11k
6mps ~3-5k

Theres a couple of nice mk2's up for sale at the moment on the MPS owners forum too.

IIRC I paid about £750 for my 335i at 23 with 0 NCB. The Insignia VXR felt lardy, not that fast and not that fun. Certainly not worth anywhere like £15k IMO.

I quite liked the Insignia, it was my favourite of the three VXR cars. The Corsa and Astra just felt like flimsey plastic scrabbly rubbish, the VXR at least felt like a stable, planted and nice car.

For me the corsa felt the most fun to drive round a track. Not as much power and smaller so a lot more chuck able

Great should that mate, very under rated cars, my mate has the Mazda 3 MPS and absolutely loves it.

as said a Passat R36 or a cc 3.6

the R36 is a cracking car, 4wd 300 horses and subtle as you like. I cant imagine insurance companies being against them either as they don't have the same sort of image the VXR branding does

Mine has been excellent and makes a glorious noise, the R36 is a little more driver focused, the CC is a more comfort based, though with the adaptive ride set to sport the car is very firm.

DSG gearbox is cracking, seemless changes in 'D', and basically instant changes in S or tiptronic, 4wd system is haldex on the CC, though the rear diff is of the later type (depending what age CC you buy), so can send power to the rear before the fronts spin, it's basically the same diff as in the later S3, rather than the previous generation one, you can feel the power being fed to the rear when you pull away hard, never had the wheels spin.

Car is very impressive from a standing start, on the move you need to work the gearbox to make the car perform at it's best, though the engine does pull very well from lower in the rev range, the V6 really wants to be higher up the power band to get the most from it.

Fantastic car for the cash imho, love mine to bits.

Just did the Experience day at Thruxton yesterday, spent most of my time in the Clubsport Corsa, it was good fun, the ESP was a little intrusive when flicking it about but having done a performance lap with one of the guys which had it all disabled it could certainly get chucked about.

I was impressed, a very underrated and overlooked car due to its badge.

The Insignia VXR was a nice enough car, I could happily drive that on a daily basis, looks good, nice interior and toys, effortlessly quick but no fun on track, just quick, stable, no drama, I'd prefer it to most of other cars mentioned in thread though. it could do with a stronger engine note, nothing a good itake/exhaust wouldn't sort.

I came out of the Astra thinking it was utter ****e but it would appear I was in the only car in ECO mode as everyone else at the end was raving about it, I got out of it thinking it felt more like my Scenic than a sports car :D and wasn't going to waste more of my time trying it again.
