Insignia Vxr alternative's

i personally I'd drop the chav criteria and just buy what I liked the look of and enjoy driving and knickers to what anybody else thinks about them being chav.

Yeah i suppose you're right. But then it will only make my choices harder lol.. it'll probably add another 10 cars to the maybe list :p

Vxr8 would be too much in fuel costs lol, probably cost me a few grand to insure it too. i know a 2.8t won't exactly be cheap to run, but it'll be better than a 6L for sure.

i'd rather have a saloon like the insignia, but if a smaller car was about that has a lot of power and is still as subtle as the insignia then yeah, i could very well be tempted.

There is just too much choice. i'd rather stay away from anything bigger than 3.5L as i refuse to pay the insurance quotes i've been getting on such cars.

I wouldn't be so sure, i bet there won't be a huge difference in the real world. Also insurance will be a non issue between any of these cars its not actually based on engine size its all about the risk profile of the car, so unless your 20 it'll be fine.

The VXR8 will be the same on fuel, this is speaking from experience. I averaged 23mpg and nudged 33mpg on runs.

Your Alternatives would be:

Audi S4
BMW 335i
Vauxhall VXR8
Mondeo 2.5T
Octavia VRS

Very strange list of alternatives there - the S4, 335i and VXR8 are in another league to the 2.5T Mondeo or Octavia VRS - infact there are lower models of both the Audi and the 335i which are *still* better than those two.

I'm 23. Things like an m3, 335i and S4 come out at 1500-1800 and I just refuse to pay that. 1000 is my absolute limit and the insignia would only be 880. I'm fairly sure insurance company's make it up as they go along.

Neglected to check how much the vxr8 would be, I thought fuel costs would be ridiculous lol. But I'll have a look. Only thing with those is, the ones I could get within my budget aren't as nice as the slightly more expensive ones. Not sure I could live with it lol.

never said they were in the same league. But obviously you get 4 doors, 5 seats, and a decent engine.

You obviously get a newer car for your money with the Octavia and Mondeo, but at the expense of less speed.

Judging by his post I don't think the OP knows what he wants, so I'd also look at sporty 5 door hatch backs, despite them being in another totally different league.

The Insignia VXR is pretty dire on fuel also. I averaged around 25 mpg with mine. Not much different the VXR8 !

Kind of defeats the point of asking for alternatives if you dismiss them all in your head for various reasons. Sounds like you've already made your mind up so just buy one.

Older car, but what about a Mazda 6 MPS? All wheel drive, 260bhp & quite discreet. Although out of all the cars suggested so far a VXR8 would be the one for me <3 (if I could afford one :D )

I'm 21 and my insurance on a 1.2 Corsa Diesel is £1800.

You had a VXR8?!

Yeah he bought a silver VXR8, posted it in "show us your motors" about a year ago. Doesn't post in motors anymore though, so probably why you didn't know.

as said a Passat R36 or a cc 3.6

the R36 is a cracking car, 4wd 300 horses and subtle as you like. I cant imagine insurance companies being against them either as they don't have the same sort of image the VXR branding does

Given what the insignia will lose in depreciation compared to a 335 for example, it probably cancels out the insurance cost difference.

Each to his own of course, but, I'm baffled as to how you can like / want an Insugnia VXR yet not like the M3....

Given you don't like the M3, I suppose a 335 is out also - although it would be my choice tbh - have you tried either? Have you tried the insignia??

Quite agree about insurers, I can insure a 5.4 V12 750i e38 for less than my current 2.5 6pot e46, an e39 M5 is more for me than a later e60 variant and an e60 535d came back as the most expensive of the lot!??!
As you say, seems to be made up / think of a number!

Some deem me as high risk as I drive professionally yet others (Adelaide insurance) take this as a plus and have come back with a renewal for my 325i more or less half what I'm paying now!

A 2004 Mondeo ST220 is £3-4k.

He claims a 2010ish Insignia VXR is already just £12k.

If we use the Mondeos value to estimate depreciation over 6 years, we can see that it's not exactly going to depreciate like crazy, it simply isn't expensive anymore. £2k a year or so seems reasonable.
