Instagram..

I can forgive the cars and stuff.

I love women as much as the next hetro man. I just find it strange.

Not much stranger than blokes who love posting 'fitness' pictures, essentially them at the gym flexing.

I can understand why some people do it and why some people follow it. I personally am not motivated enough to post pictures but i follow friends who travel and some particularly arty photographers because i like their style.

I find most people on it can be divided up into:

People who take pictures of themselves
People who take picture of their amimals
People who take pictures of their hobby/obsessions
People who take pictures of their travels/good times
People who take pictures of their food
People who dont take pictures

The thing is they aren't attractive are they?

I know of plenty of girls that will pose and stage instagram photos where they look fabulous. Meet them in real life and they might have bad skin, be a size 18, hairy arm pits, or whatever.

Most of the people I follow or who follow me are all about adventure travel, be it by motorcycle, yacht or other means.

Instagram is great because it can be whatever you want it to, and you can customise it enough to not see all the vain self-centred "influencers". I use it more than FB.

Agreed, for the most part I only see the sort of content I want to see. Even found people with similar music taste to my own which has been quite fun.

That said, they're pushing more and more ads and "recommendations" now which is spoiling things a bit.

This on-going battle for acceptance can't be good for one's mental state.... Can it?

Of course not. You are one million percent correct.

Did you hear about that 10 year old girl who killed herself recently because she thought she was too ugly to be an Instagram model.

This is how the latest generation of kids are growing up, and its why anxiety and other mental issues are continuing to go through the roof.

Social media is a disease. More and more generations of kids are growing up absorbing absolute shed-loads of utter fakeness and dangerous propaganda on social media.

Instagram only shows you more of what you already look at.

If you're noticing lots of wannabe Insta-models it's because you are looking for them and liking their pictures.

I generally only follow people I know, or gym people, who aren't wearing makeup generally

Still would

It's a legitimate way to make a bit of money and get free stuff. Some of them even move on to actual modelling contracts.

It's basically a portfolio, similar to something like Flickr for photographers.

Just like magazines and other social network sites, it has it's problems and negative effects on society.

Lots of companies spend masive figures every month on paying 'influencers' to post about the brand on instagram.

Nice work if you can get it, probably why there is an endemic of people paying for followers.

This is news to me. Though it doesn't suprise that something like that would happen. It's pretty sad.... How do you combat that sort of thing?

The inspirational ******** ****** me off so much. Do people really need endless motivational speeches in order to get through the day? I can't comprehend it at all.

"I'd never have reached my goals if I hadn't been able to focus blah blah blah."

Such crap.

I just have my friends on there.

One is travelling and posts lots of interesting pictures. Other than that it's not much different to Facebook photos.

After I got all sorts of weird follow request, I made my account private so basically only my friends can see it. That's how I like it. I follow people who aren't my friends, but mostly because they're athletes that I think are awesome (strong men, basically) and women that are attractive.

I prefer deviantART. At least that is more interactive in that people write comments on your work rather than just pushing the like button.
deviantART used to be great fun because brokebrain mentalists would draw pictures of their spirit animal tri-sexual lover without any hint of irony or self-awareness and then other smooth brains would post their versions of things and it was just dumpster fire central.

For someone not on instagram, why should I look at it? Genuine question btw.
