Would be useful to know which SSD you plan to buy? Otherwise any answers will be guesswork. Unless you are getting a Crucial RealSSD then I would recommend you use the Intel controller, which will probably give better performance than the Marvell, and wouldn't touch a JMicron with a barge pole.

What Intel controller??? I don't think he has one on his AMD setup.


We really would need to know which SSD, if the Intel Gen2 then I would stick it on the Marvel controller, AHCI and then use the intel toolbox.
 
This is just the question I was going to ask, got an X25-M G2 on the way and putting it in my gf's laptop and unsure of the order to do things in..oh and installing W7 on it...
 
For a laptop I would go into the bios, check that the SATA controller has been set up for AHCI (rather than RAID or IDE) wack the SSD in. Instal win 7 and then do not instal any SATA drivers, just use the native MS sata drivers. Bish bosh, jobs a goodun
