What's the best way to remove the fan cooler already on my motherboard because it's one of those that are cliped on permanantly and not designed to be removed.

Thanks

When I did it, I just removed the mobo off stand offs.

Then got a tweezer and pressed the clips on the back together, push the pins back through the motherboard. And it quite easily prized off.

Those Zalman NB coolers are fiddly to assemble/fix onto the motherboard imo.

Are those push-pins?

If they are then you can usually squeeze the back of them with a pair of pliers and push them through the holes.

incidently cob, looking at that pic of the motherboard do you think this cpu cooler could cause problems for the zalman northbridge?

Heat sink dimensions: 78x80x43 mm
Fan dimensions: 80x80x25 mm
Rated voltage: 12 V
Air flow: 32.4 CFM
Bearing type: Hydro bearing
Fan speed: ~ 2.600 RPM
Noise level: 20~23 dB
Power consumption: ~1.56 W
Certificates, approvals: CE, FCC
Weight: 305 g
Application: AMD Athlon XP up to 3400+ • AMD Sempron up to 2800+ • AMD Duron up to 1.8 GHz (all socket A)

The NB is close to cpu and the cpu cooler extends towards the NB??

Nah it should be fine.

If it does happen to touch the Zalman then the Zalmans fins are easy enough to bend/break to make room.
