I just want to know if it's possible to install a RAID controller card (and 2nd HD for RAID1 striping) after Windows XP has been installed?

I don't want to completely re-install, is there a way i can do this?

But what about the RAID drivers, i thought you would have to re-install xp from scratch then load the drivers on the initial screen of the xp setup? Can this be loaded afterwards?

I was about to reply with something entirely useless... just ignore me. :)

I Have been searching the web for the same answer as I want to go RAID 5 or RAID 10 but have XP installed on SATA in IDE mode. not found anything, looks like I wil have to wipe the drive and start over.

Also when I built my rig I did not bother to install a floppy drive but this is needed for the raid driver. ..what a pain, never going to use a floppy drive for anything else.

Will Vista support RAID better?

Hmm.. still no answer to the original question.

Maybe i should rephrase it:

"Can I add a 2nd drive to my system and enable RAID0, without having to re-install WinXP?"
or

"Is there a way to fully restore all installed applications, settings, profiles and files from one winXP installation to another?"

just an idea dont no if it will work but wouldnt u be able 2 back your xp set up (basicaly evry thing in c drive) then reinstall windows then coppy over

So,

Situation A: Windows XP Installed on a single SATA harddrive

Situation B: Windows XP Installed on 2 new SATA harddrives in RAID0

how can i do the transition, I don't want to re-install windows if possible.

anyone with experience?

I think Ghost is your friend here. This should work:
Insert RAID card and the two drives. XP should see the card and ask for drivers.
Make sure drives on card are correctly configured in its BIOS and can be seen as one drive of the appropriate sze in XP.
Ghost from the original drive to the new ones.
Remove the original drive.

Because the original drive has been removed the system should see the raid as the first HDD and the drive letters should be correct. If you've only got the original drive plus one other so need the original to make up the RAID, Ghost to DVD first.

It would be different if you were using a mobowith a JMicron controller as that's an absolute bitch to work with other than during the installation.
