Installing an Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV to Sapphire 290

I know this is a bit out of date but I am about to do the same to my 290. I have ordered the dram kit from ocuk and it comes tomorrow.

Just one question. The vrams are really close to other components and I know with say the Accelero Hybrid it provides insulation tape to put over the components not having a heatsink but next to the vram's. Did you think about the vram heatsinks being too close to the other components ?

I'm using akasa tape I've used it before and its brilliant.
 
Well I just received my accelero Xtremme 4, no vram/vrm heatsink yet, I placed the thermal pad like OP.

I am very disapointed, after 10 minute of furmark the card crashes.
fan speed never go above 30%. gpu temp was below 100°C, I'm guessing thoee chip are not cooled enought.
Will I have to manually set the fan speed before doing anything?
 
First and foremost DON'T USE FURMARK!

Get Afterburner and create a custom fan profile in the settings, I use 100%@60c and it sits about 56c whilst gaming and still very quiet.

Test your gpu with Heaven, 3D Mark or game BM's, stay away from Furmark.
 
It's worse on AC type coolers as the fan profile isn't the same as the original specced cooler and doesn't spin up the same.

Furmark is a power virus if anything in regards to gpu's and isn't comparable to running games in the slightest.

well impressed with mine on a R9 290 it maxes at 63c in tests so far and thats with fan at 30%!

I used the Alpenföhn Passive DRAM / VRAM Chip Coolers will post pics later.

sliders_alpha in my kit there was a single sheet that had recommended fan profiles for both nvidia and amd in EVGA Precision did you not get this sheet ?

I did the same as you and have similar performance. The sheet is a good starting point, but I found it better to tinker with it based on the sort of temperatures you want to see and the noise level you're happy with.
 
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but this is the most active accelero Xtreme 4 I could find. I recently got one of these for my R9 290 and it is working well, however I cannot get the variable fan speed to work, it is constantly at what I assume is 100%. I have the fan connector plugged into the graphics card and have a custom fan curve set-up in after burner, this fan curve worked fine before I changed the cooler. To the people who have the cooler and a working fan curve, how have you achieved this.
