anyone tried this? i'm assuming this is at the top end of DIY skills? i'm thinking of having a bash but is it as difficult as i'm thinking it could be...

Not done it myself but my sisters fella tried at his house and found it a complete nightmare and just didnt look right. Hes not an idiot as far as DIY goes either!

He ended up taking it down and paying a pro. End result was looked the mutts.

never had any issues doing it ... just redone my kitchen. Just take yer time and measure twice cut once .

It's fixed up with muck that you either mix yourself, or buy ready made. Like a big stodgy glue.

TOP TIP: Do not get a plastic measuring angle thing, they bend and make life hard. Get a metal one and your angles will be straight(er)!

i've heard enough. i'm handing it to a pro

You get packs that have pre-cut corners, makes life very easy, all you do is cut a few straights and stick it all up and jobs done.

Dont get ready mixed its crap as a rule and dries to quick . Buy a bag and mix yer own . use plenty . Plastic cutting guides are not a lot of cop but only you can decide if its worth spending out on one. I made my own block which works fine .

Popping up securing pins to stop it sliding down the wall helps but not to many . And fill any cracks etc with decorators caulk . Give it a few days before painting . Precut corners are a lot easier but its not cheap . Proper plaster coving is a lot better than the polysterne stuff .

I put coving up in our old house. Its a tough job but really satisfying if you do it right.

Do not buy the cheapo polystyrene stuff whatever you do. Also get a decent miter saw, no need for an electric one as the coving is easy to cut through.

One thing i have learnt from doing up three houses now, all of which were TOTAL wrecks, is that its not worth the time doing things like this (or much else for that matter).

A general decorator will work twice as fast as you, will do a job ten times as good in that time, and you have someone to complain to if it isnt 100% perfect. If you factor in the saved time and the miles better finish, not to mention the removed ballache, they are also really cheap £80-100/day around here.

I am a competent DIY'er, but it would work out better for me to work in a shop for near as damnit minimum wage at the weekend to pay them to do in a day what i would have sworn at all weekend. I did the first 1.5 all DIY, but have now completely stopped doing much at all myself for the reasons i have outlined.

Whats wrong with the polystyrene stuff out of interest? I put some up nearly 3 years ago in our spare room and it looks as good if not better than the plaster coving in a few of the other rooms.

Very easy but looks and sounds hard. I have done several rooms now and I am a DIY noob. Just use "No More Nails" for your glue it has instant grab and no need for tacks either, oh and buy the pre-cut corners.
