So i managed to get a 1TB WD green hard drive from a store for £64.99 :)

One question i want to check is this.

From replacing my 500gb Samsung drive am i correct in saying this is the correct way to install it.

1:Turn off pc ect.
2:Remove the leads and cables from old HDD
3:Unscrew and remove the samsung hard drive

4:Install the new hard drive, screw in place, and attach the wires and cables to the same connections as previous samsung drive was attached too.
(dont need to change anything given its a 1TB not a 500gb?)

5:Turn on pc,
6:Install windows vista, then install all the updates SP2 ect.
7:Install other drivers like graphics
8:finished

IS that correct, im unsureif at 6: i need to install motherboard drivers again or do anything special given i am replacing the hard drive.

help much welcome as useal.

p.s il name the retail store where i got this hard drive from if i manage to install this hard drive with your help:D

You'll need to install everything driver wise again if you're replacing the system drive :)
Vista and 7 will find the majority of system drivers, but it's always worth installing graphics and any other specialist hardware drivers manually.

Also, please for the love of kittens don't install Vista. Get 7 on there ;)

I wouldn't if I were you. You'll get warned, suspended or banned from the forum.

And you'll need to install all the drivers after you've installed the operating system.

Download the latest ones from the manufacturer's website.

ow yer thanks for letting me know

The hard drive would be the system drive as the old 500gb samsung one died on me so this a replacement 1TB one.

Am i correct though in saying all i need do is let Vista do the work and install its updates then install drivers for graphics seperatly?

I wasnt sure if i needed to install new motherboard drivers ie current ones before windows updates .

Yes, you need to install all the motherboard drivers.

Chipset, LAN, audio etc., graphics card drivers and drivers for any other hardware you have.

if i need to install motherboard drivers, even though ofc they been installed before but now current hard drive dead i guess they need to be reinstalled....

if so do they get installed before or after windows updater is updated?

Everything needs to be re-installed.

With a new HDD you're starting again from scratch.

Install Windows, install all the latest drivers and then install the Windows updates.

Start with the chipset drivers, then GPU and then all the rest.

You may need to install some of the Microsoft Net Framework updates before you can install the Catalyst Control Centre and GPU drivers.

Edit

Don't forget anti virus software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is pain free and does a good job.
