a couple of years ago I tried to install windows on a pc that was already overclocked...it didnt happen (errors etc) . I want to format and do a clean install of XP over the hols but dont really want to go through the overclocking process again.

Is it therefore possible to install xp on an already pc?

If the computer is stable with the overclocked settings, windows should install without a hitch. I guess you pushed it a bit too much the last time you tried?

Yep - I've installed XP on numerous overclocked PC's and never had an issue.
(Even back in the day)

What I think you'll find is people had clocks on their PC that were not stable.
Typical example... PC runs fine from day to day - Fails after 5 mins in Prime95.
As it works fine for them - They keep the unstable settings.

Comes to install XP - Slight error and XP throws back an error.

If your PC is Prime95 stable - XP will go on it no probs.

thanks for the replies. It was stable prime95 a few months ago but Ive been getting random crashes and reboots. Ill run it through again and reinstall.

i've installed on my own machine (when i know its overclockably stable (is that a word :p)) loads of times without problems

installed when i pushed it way too far before and it was messing up in the file copy stage

Cleaned Heatsink?
Tried Mem testers?
(Either the windows one or memtest 86)

Random blue screens and crashes can be caused by overclocks and/or drivers.
Amongst other things... But it's usually clocks too high.
