Insurance after declaring modifications

Get phoning round some local breakers these aren't exactly rare cars so there's got to be one knocking around with an intact rocker cover that means you won't have to mess around.

Edit: Times must have changed, last time I went to a breakers they let you loose and just told you to bring any bits you'd stripped off back and they'd price them up.

that will be my next step but the people i have contacted on ebay who are breakers won't let me buy it seperate

Telling the insurance company wouldn't have even crossed my mind with this, fairly sure they'd have to prove this modification caused the accident if that were to happen. It's a 1.3 Fiesta, they really aren't going to be looking at it like a modified Jap import.

Me too. I take it things are different now?

It sounds like the OP has been contacting online "breakers" rather than rocking up down the local yard with his toolbox which would explain it as the online lot aren't going to want random bits hanging around their storage if they can help it.

Made zero difference to my premium declaring an aftermarket whole intake (Admiral group). The only price to pay was the £20 admin fee to make the change, which is a bit of an arse but hey ho.

OK, now link to one specific item which is from a Fiesta and not a Ka.

I'm amazed at those rocker covers. They look like old cake tins. Had no idea they made them like that in the past 40 years. :p

That just shows how old the 1.3 engine is. I remember looking at a KA for my first car with my dad and him being amazed they were still in use as it looked (and was) exactly the same as his mk1 or mk2 Escort van that was one of his first cars!

The valve cover in my Mini looks very similar as that was an engine designed in the 50's too :p

Like I said, if its a slightly different load of plastic ducting from a different Ford, they won't care. If its a chrome plated K&N Typhoon, they might care. :p

I don't think the KA is even made by Ford. It's made as poorly as possible by some 3rd party AFAIK. My sister had one and it's engine completely died before it reached 65k miles. Quite a common thing on KAs apparently. :P
