Insurance after declaring modifications

lol don't declare it before renewal, they could easily turn around say we've voided your insurance and you'll loose the years NCB.... If you really feel you must declare something like this then do yourself a favour and do it when shopping for renewals as a "potential modification"

just call up your insurance before you add the mod and see what they say, simple as.

if you install the mod then declare it you're risking the chance of voiding your policy..

If you want to go by the book you technically have to tell your insurer if you put roof bars on your car, or if you fit anything non OEM.

I view this on the same level as replacing a part with something compatible but not OEM. Just like you might replace brake pads with something not OEM or brake discs. You wouldn't inform your insurer for that would you?

I was talking more along the lines of exhaust systems etc, in the case of OP just replace it and ignore it, the mod is not really a mod it is just a replacement part from my pov.

Whilst I'm not condoning this a way around declaring mods, how would things play out if you had very limited mechanical knowledge, bought a car that had different air filter, exhaust, remap, etc, as you didn't know any difference where would that then stand if an insurance claim were made?

Would you need to then prove it wasn't advertised with mods listed, perhaps have pictures of engine bay, exhaust from the time of purchase along with the advert.

I'd expect insurance to ask to pay up as if the mod was declared if they investigated and found that it wasn't

Good, if they do try and charge you for something minor like that im sure it would be in your interest to move companies anyway.

With all of my mods declared on my mazda it just pushed my excess up to £250, that's for the roll bar, suspension, intake, exhaust and polly bushing. The perineum for the year is only £97 on that too.

Wow not too bad then :D

Contacted insurance today as needed to change address, also mention my none stock filters .... they put me on hold for a minute and they basically said .. we don't care but will put it down as declared filter modifications

Great, they are not all bad then, I had some good dealings with Privilege a few years back with Imprezas and Evos.
