Insurance claim on old gaming rig .. What will they give me?

How's it going guys, sorry for the silence been waiting on insurance decision before posting again.

So I have had my offer today and I must say very pleased with the outcome. They have offered me.

Asus Maximus VII Hero
I5 4460 3.2ghz
4gb Kingston Fury x ddr3
X2 Asus GTX950 strix 2gb GDDR5 in SLi
800w modular PSU (didn't get the brand)
Kingston 120gb SSD with Windows 10
500gb SATA 3 HDD
New ATX gaming case

And they also threw in a new cougar gaming mouse and keyboard. So all in all I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Santander new for old is definitely worth my premiums. I've priced all that up on ocuk and it comes in a little under £1000 so the £150 excess was worth it. They also did data transfer from my old HDD for an additional £35.

I'll probably get another 4gb ram on order for when it arrives next week.

What are people's thoughts on the GPU's will they do for a bit until I can afford upgrade?

Fantastic deal,;)

I added o on the then thinking it wouldn't be a problem, but I could've said git, but wasn't first thing that popped in to my head lol. And it was automatically *** out.

Yes it worked out better than everyone expected, you should stick it out before you go replacing parts.

Hi harry5522, it wasn't a specific insurance policy for my PC it was my home insurance which has contents cover on it and as for cost my yearly cover is £328.

Not entirely sure what my premium will increase by next year but my parents claimed for a £2000 television a few years back and it increased about 10 - 15%.

I would say I'd just shop around for the cheapest cover when I get my renewal quote but I am so impressed with Santander and how they handled the claim I may stick with them if the premiums don't increase to dramatically. They where fantastic from start to finish.

When I decided it was time to get house insurance, Imade absolutely sure, that on my policy, that it was noted, that I have some seriously expensive top end PCs, and none of this basic shop rubbish either.

They have been fine with it, however Santa and deer overtook the company that owned the company that did my policy, and the note regarding my PCs was no longer present.

I only noticed this after about 2 years of paying the gits...

I argued this point when I noticed it and they said sowhat, we dont care.

Now, I am a right git and I dont like being messed about and so I asked the advise of a solicitor, and I showed her a copy of my original agreement ( yes, I keep copies of everything, and yes, I am THAT anal ) and we took santundare to court over it, and they had to pay me back every penny that I had paid into their policy, which isnt much, cos its contents only, but it bought the wife a new kitchen, so we were happy.

I never needed to claim either, but it was the principle of it all.

Im now insured elsewhere, and I make absolutelely sure that the computers etc are all noted

I have converted my attic into a computer room, and even extended my home purely for more of mu electronics and I now have a full recording studio complete with kit ... That I may learn to play on day?... May!

good result there.
its good to see an insurance company coming through like this.
normally they try there hardest to get out of a claim.

Result! Got to say good for you keeping with it. That is what insurance should be like.

It has to be said if coffee went down into my old PC (over ten years old) I’d just take the HDD out and bin it down the tip. Order up a new PC and copy all my backup stuff of my WD external drive on to the new.

Enjoy the New PC and I hope you get many years of good service from it, just don’t go spilling stuff down it now. :D

Had to find a new pic as poor old Charlie isn’t "Winning" these days!

This

Also i wouldnt just order another 4gb and stick in there just for the sake of having more RAM, as more RAM =/= faster. If you want more RAM get another two sticks and make it 4 x 4gb rather than 2 x 4gb +1 x 4gb.

That sounds like a good result.

I have had good results with 2x claims through home insurance for computers, both accidental damage.

First was an accident when I had a go at trying to watercool my PC... I was 18 and had not long ago done a rebuild.

It had a whopping Athlon XP 2400, 1.5GB RAM, 2x 36GB Western Digital Raptors, an 80GB 7200rpm drive and a 120GB 7200rpm drive in a thermaltake case.

Their first offer was an upgrade for the main components, but only 3x 80GB 7200rpm drives and 1x 120 or 160GB 7200 rpm drive.

It was my mum's insurance and I got her to reject the offer... but she couldn't quite manage the why, so I remember having the conversation with the insurer and complaining that the hard drive replacements were not up to scratch and they needed to fix that.

It took a few days, but she came back to me and stated that their supplier couldn't get ahold of WD Raptors... just told her that she would have to try a different supplier.

A couple more days and she came back with a new offer... it was immense...

I got the latest Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition, 2 or 4GB of top-tier low latency memory, high end board, high end PSU, 2x 76GB Raptors AND 2x 146GB Raptors, along with the latest 2nd-best ATi card XT2800 or whatever it was called.

As you can imagine... I was quite chuffed with that result :D

Second time was with an older laptop that was dropped... it was 3-4 years old, but it was a compact 13" screen laptop that only weighed 2kg (back then 2kg laptops were still quite hard to get hold of). First they tried to pawn me off with something of similar performance, but a cheap and bulky 15.4" laptop.

Again, I had to reject the offer and give them an idea of what was a fair comparison... they ended up sending me a cheque for 1100 quid for a 3-4 year old laptop that only cost 700 to begin with... hehehe :D I went and bought a macbook pro... then sold it for not much less than i bought it for a few month later and used the money while i was a student to go on a kitesurfing holiday in Dominican Republic :D

It seems like you just have to kick up a bit of a stink and reject the first offer...

So many of you have got such negative opinions on insurance companies - just read the 'ruddy policy wording before you buy the policy and make sure it covers what you might want to claim for :p

I have a one year old (now) factroy ordered Car bought from new, its well looked after and driven rarely compared to some. My insurance is cheap enough but every year the renewal comes in double near enough what is was. You go on the phone and by magic the Girl can offer the same premium as last year or even like this year cheaper. It just grates a bit and at the back of your mind your thinking “Just offer me the decent price in the renewal instead of trying it on”

That's a different issue ;)

Claims wise it's very rare for an insurer to try to "wriggle out" of a claim. They usually follow the policy wording to the letter and 99% of the time people just haven't read the wording before thinking they can claim.

It helps that I work in insurance so I've learned to read those 10 page smallprint booklets you get :D
