Hi im 19 and looking to get Honda Civic Type R as next step ive been driving Vauxhall Corsa Sxi 1.2 04 plate for over 1 year.I can buy the Type R second hand 04 plate ive seen for good price but Insurance cost a bomb £4934 just by myself. Im currently on my Dads Insurance with Norwich Union and he has over 9+ years protected no claims and i got a quote from confused.com and was £4500 with him im guessing it is because the car is 200bhp and they wont allow protected no claims with me on the insurance. So i ask is their any other Insurance companies i can try i tried Performance Direct but that was over £5000.

So realisticly am I going for car to early :o or can my dream be made thanks in advance. :)

Its been said before but i will say it again, and i appologise if this isn't the case cause its not 100% clear from your post, if the car is yours and your the main driver its insurance fraud getting the car under your dads name, if you have 1 years no claims and you want a CTR your going to have to pay the price, its as simple as that, its a quick car so the insurance is expensive.

You're probably best to wait a couple of years mate, insurance would be much more reasonable, and you can pick one up cheaper.

Well your first stumbling block was not having your own insurance from the start. Your going to have to try shopping around, perhaps limiting your milage, and having a high-excess.

I still think your going to find it rather high however. I'm looking at quotes on similar cars, (Type-R, Leon Cupra R, Focus RS, etc) they all come in between £700 and £1000 comp, and thats me at 23 with 3 years NCD.

The Corsa is in my Dads name and im and second driver no insurance fraud at all.

I can buy Type R no problem just insurance is very steep again i would try to get under my dads name and me second driver.

you will be amzazed at how much it will drop in the next few years, I insure my focus 1.6 with alloys exhaust and suspension kit declared for £720, Im 20. a CTR would be about £1700 but I'm not paying that, it will be about £1200 next year probly, my first year on focus was £2000 but now I have my own 3 years NCD its worth it!

Don't. You have ALREADY had first hand experience on why this is a crap idea. If you're buying it, its YOU'RE car, so get YOURSELF some insurance

Don't ride on daddys back all your life.

If you have no NCB you will pay over £3,000 wherever you look, on your own policy. Don't do it on your dad's policy, read above comments :)

Woohoo the joys of no claims! £2k for me at 19 with 1ncb on a CTR :D

But if you have a 1.2 at the moment, wouldn't it be better to go for a warm-hatch instead of jumping straight to a CTR?

Thanks guys for your help i think its best i wait a few years then before i purchase one looks like i made a mess of going with my Dad name from start but it is cheap much cheaper then if i was to get it by myself back then when i bought it.

Looks like ill wait until im 21 and start insurance in my own name and take it from their oh well was worth a try.

Good choice mate, glad you see the light, get your no claims up then get the car of your dreams :)

And thats where people are wrong, sure it cost me a good £700 more to get my own insurance for my first car, but it got me 1yr NCD (which halved my insurance), so in the long run, it was cheaper!

So 1990's :o

I picked that saying up around "Last Christmas". Sad I know, but when it comes to the 1990's - "I'm your man".

Thankfully we have the "Freedom" to go off on a tangent in these threads.

When I was driving a 1.0 Nissan Micra, I was insured as a named driver. My nan retained ownership of the car. She insisted that she had told the insurance company that I was driving it to and from university. She thought she was helping me, I never realised the implications.

Come July 2005, I had some inheritance through and bought my Civic. Despite having 1.5 years of accident free driving through mid wales and around the UK, covering 20k miles I was suddenly faced with 2.4k fully comp because it is a group 15 car. Admittedly it is a quick car but it seemed outrageous.

Come renewal time I am currently quoted just over 1.4k fully comp with an excess of 150 quid.

Definitely build your NCB first...
