Few things really -

  1. If i buy a car and register it under my name which insurance companies will insure it with my mum as the main driver and me as an additional?
  2. If my mum already has insurance with Tesco with full NCB's, when applying for my car does she put down 0 NCB's or full etc...? (I don't want to go losing her NCB's)
  3. What insurance companies will give the main policy holder and the additional driver NCB's?
Thanks,

Andy

1) Buy your own insurance. You can afford a brand new car, you can afford your own insurance your cheapskate
2) 0 NCD
3) DirectLine, but they only count with DirectLine, and thus are useless.

Man, what happened to the thousands and thousands of pounds of savings you had? Maybe you should spend less on a car and insure the car properly?

You really need your own policy but

3) Directline allow named drivers to gain noclaims.

your mum cannot have 2 no claims discounts

she can either be the main policy holder on yours and start with 0 ncb, same with you. and you can earn an NCB as a naimed driver with direct line

not sure who else offers this though

however direct line arent one of the companies that allow the main driver to be different to the policy holder, so technically insuring you as a named driver would be illegal

your best bet (and probably most legal) is to insure with norwhich union, who will give you a discount if you name your mum or dad as a party on YOUR insurance. Reason being, its less time for you to be at the wheel, therefore less time you could be causing an accident

Yes. Or alternatively, don't buy a brand new car that will shed £1000's of value in its first few months, and spend that on insurance for a second hand Grande Punto?

Really its the only way to do it. everyone has to pay sometime might as well start out now whilst you have the cash.

What sort of quotes are you getting?

yes as technically, your insurance would be invalid anyway if your mum was main driver when she wasnt and you were.

Near £2k.

Have you tried Admiral or Elephant with you as the main driver, and then adding your parents as named drivers? This worked out the cheapest for me.

Yep, still a lot of money.

By this rate i'm going to have to go for a Corsa SXI with a years free insurance.

So far you've ignored every single bit of advice people have given you in here... PLEASE consider taking what everybody's trying to tell you on board, and don't buy a brand new car!

Shocking, isn't it? I don't think i've seen a thread that comes close to this one in terms of the OP completely ignoring every bit of advice he is given.
