We are in the process of buying a property where I'd like to convert the integral garage into a bathroom and office. There is a bathroom over the garage and the soil stack comes down through the garage internally on the external wall. What would be the usual approach here, simply box it in and live with it, or is it feasible to relocate it on the external side of the property?

Thanks as always

I guess its entirely up to you, its obviously a lot more work to make it an external stack vs just boxing it in.
Although if adding windows and flooring etc I'm sure it won't really add to the cost for the builder to move it whilst doing the rest of the work.

Can you see any of the stack externally before it goes to ground ?

No its all internal, and looking at photos it is also boxed in within the upstairs bathroom with a vent coming through the roof. Will see what neighbours have done with there conversions

Yeah my friend has recently in last few months done the exact same thing.

The previous owners converted the integral garage to a kitchen, but left loads of pipe boxing which had the bathroom and ensuite waste pipes within. It was very dated when he bought it 2-3 yrs ago, so they've now just had a new kitchen put in 2 months ago, which involved having the pipe boxing removed and waste pipes re-routed externally straight out, down the side of the house into the drain. They've done a very clean job as it looks like it was originally part of the house. This freed up a lot of wall space for the wall units and some tower units to go in.

So I don't see any reason why you couldn't re-locate the pipes.
