Very very nice.. My credit card is calling me.. But then the logical side of my brain says there is nothing my PC can't currently run at the moment anyway that struggles... Gah! Must wait a little longer... ;)

About the same, but the good bit is the upgrade path, you get access to Ivybridge-E as it is the same socket, so there is a high end upgrade path, where as Haswell will require a new mobo/cpu..

thats still not bad considering the price, depending on volts and cooling, should easily top 5Ghz

Gibbo struggled to get 4.8ghz and that was using a dangerously high 1.48V and only stability testing with SuperPI (which is not really a stability tester anyway).

If they easily top 5ghz then Gibbo failed miserably. :p

From all the reviews I've read they should sit at 4.5 without too much trouble, which is the plan.

mmm 430 for low-end 2011 board + 3820

or 315 for a mid-range Gen 3 mobo + 2500k

I'm siding on the latter I think now -especially if the 2500k will have the potentialto clockhigher

To be fair, its a tough decision! With the 1155 you could upgrade to ivy later in the year, and with the 2011 you could upgrade next year, so long as intel release another good value 2011 ivy cpu.

I agree its a tough decision I want to order a new mobo/cpu this week and I really can't decide one way or the other

the 2011 is the better option IF Intel definately release a good value 2011 Ivybridge-E - they should do - but there is no guarantee

430 = upgrade path to 6 core cpu and ivybridge-e
315 = new mobo and cpu when haswell comes out

:D:D

edit

Im biased as I have gone for X79, building now - it seemed silly not to when Ivybridge E is delayed to 2013, then it means that I have got Intels top enthusiast paltform for a year and then have a straight cpu swap for an upgrade to IB-E when that comes out..

I see what you are saying edgedemon - but having Intels top enthusiast platform for a year - is not great - if its outperformed (if you've bought a 3820) - but the new similarly priced Ivybridges ... especially if they are superb overclockers

I suppose it depends on wether you want to have more than 4 cores, as ivy is only 4 cores, so you will be stuck at 4 cores for the next Gen.
X79 gives you more options for a little bit more cash up front and with IB-E having the same socket, then you know you have a platform upgrade to the next Gen, whereas SB or the soon to be released IB is the end of a generation as Haswell is a different socket
If it was a big difference in price then no, but IMHO I think the difference now makes it a viable option for a decent upgrade path. I went x79 for the cores and 32GB ram, but I think X79 is a valid choice for a upgrade path as well now...
