Hey guys,

Birthday in under 3 weeks, and decided to change my 7500 for either above.

It will be for gaming / web browsing / Spotify etc..

So would I be better, just changing the CPU and cooler with a 7700k or go down the Ryzen route?

Thanks.

No question the 2600.. quads are dead.

No they're not...

The 7700k has hyperthreading and is a brilliant chip for gaming.

If you want to get the fastest then go 8700k as it's faster in games than ryzen 2

Or do what I'm doing and wait for intels 8/16 chip incoming.

Hi,

Definitely the Ryzen route.

True story.

No, no, no. Ryzen was first. No need to wait for a replacement from the late company. They should have stayed on their quad cores, why should they release 8-core chips at all? :D
Not to see something from the competition :D

depends on how much you want to spend i suppose.
7700k is £257 if you shop around.

ryzen 2600x (don't get the 2600 if you can - 2600x comes with a better stock cooler and better stock/boost clocks) + mobo:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £336.48 (includes shipping: £10.50)

about £70 difference.
depending on what games you play, 7700k is no slouch currently.

I'm assuming you have a Z270 board and a decent cooler, if you do, then I wouldn't recommend any of the above (IMHO), unless you're desperate to get it new.
i'd probably spend £170-180 and get a 2nd hand 6700k/7700k off the MM and do a straight swap in for your current 7500. that will be best value-for-money.

If you don't have either a z170/z270 board or a decent cooler, then the choice is clear cut. Ryzen 2600x hands down.

basically (tl;dr version):

if you have a z170/z270 board AND a decent cooler - get a used 6700k/7700k
if you don't have either (or only one) of the above - get the 2600x

if you can get a 5ghz 7700k with delidding then it's still better for gaming; otherwise the 2700 route makes sense in the long run. Personally I prefer not to replace the motherboard so to avoid re-installing and re-activating Windows and various software (yeah I'm lazy)

8700K is faster for gaming. Beating Ryzen which as two extra cores.

This is because of the old game engines. Here, the guy is asking about the quad-core, not about the hexa-core.

For a comparison, check games reviews of the 4-module old AMD FX-8000 CPUs to see how well they aged.

Guy asks if he should buy 7700k or 2600x, gets told to buy the more expensive 8700k, sounds legit...

Maybe ask the OP what GPU he is running, what resolution and mhz he plays at, lets be honest if hes on a 1080ti at 1440p or 4K then the CPU is almost irrelevant at this point, if hes playing 1080p 144hz+ Gaming like CSGO etc competitively then absolutely buy the 8700k.

So much intel bias on these forums its hilarious, its like people need to either self justify their own purchases by recommending them to everyone else..

OP, imho go and view youtube benchmarks or google the benchmarks for your favourite games on the GPU and resolution you play, and you should find most CPU's listed, then weigh up the stats with the costs, that is your answer.

If you've got a Z board then slap second hand i7 7700k in! if you havent got a Z board, would hold on personally - your still easily over most commended specs for CPU .

if your able to get a good price for shipping on your board and CPU then ryzen would be nice.. though you'll have to see if your ram speed is between 3000-3200hz. if you've got a 2400hz kit then you'll be hurting performance

if your able to state your full system as well as hz and resolution you game at and overall budget- users will be able to help you out more

the funny thing is if gaming the newer i5s shouldnt be neglected faster than the 7700k and faster than the new ryzens ingames and cheaper.

No I didn't. I suggested the OP get a 7700k...

If he can get a used one for less money then all the better if his mobo supports it.

I mentioned the 8700k as it 6 core beating a 8 core ryzen in games....When the 8/12 thread intel arrives at mainstream pricing it will pull ahead further.
