Intel 7700k or AMD 2600?

Also, worth bearing in mind that if you go the Ryzen route, you're going to need to invest a decent amount in some fast DDR4 memory to get decent performance out of it.
£150+ for 16GB that people aren't considering here.
Ram is expensive now regardless, your still going to need to pump cash into DDR4 for a current 8 series Intel.

Sounds to me you've made your mind up and are trying to reinforce your decision by telling everyone else to follow suit

Fitting an after market cooler to my 980ti was way harder than delidding, "taking something to pieces" usually means more than removing a piece of metal and then gluing it back on. You wouldn't say you took your PC to taking it to if you all you did was remove the heat sink to apply some thermal paste unless you wanted it to make it sound like a huge deal.

You are still taking it to pieces irrelevant of how many parts you are removing.

Quite a few of us here have upgraded from ryzen to coffee. Ask us if it was worth it.
So far the posts I have seen have been a resounding yes. Single core strength cannot be ignored when gaming
We can argue about IPC all day long but then intel is clocking 500mhz+ higher it is a no brainer for 144hz. Wait for the new GPU's to arrive in the summer and see the real difference.
For those on a quite frankly ancient 60hz monitor then ryzen will do the job.

Thanks again for all the input guys.

@SiDeards73 im going to mimic your plans I think, will hold out (birthday a few weeks) see how the market is then, and pick up VEGA and then like @5punk3monk3y suggested make my decision whether or not to upgrade anything else..

One more thing..

I understand that the VEGA GPU's use a lot of wattage. Would a 750W EVGA GQ PSU have enough grunt? no oc, only a hd and ssd and a few case fans..

Don't sleep on one of the cheaper Z370 boards and an 8600K. Can be had for around £300 all in and 6 5ghz cores is plenty for gaming and massively out performing the Ryzen stuff.
That comes from a Ryzen owner who is looking at switching back to Intel.
Oh go back to your cave. At 1080p with an RX480 you'll see no performance difference at all. Also you're making up numbers in your follow-on posts given actual benchmarks have Ryzen occasionally ahead of the top Intel offering, more normally a few % behind and in very rare cases a reasonable bit behind - but with the differences only showing or noticeable when pairing absolutely top end GPUs with excessively low resolutions and settings.

What RAM and motherboard dod you have OP?? If the RAM is fast enough, and the motherboard can handle it a Core i7 7700 or Core i7 7700K would be a much easier upgrade to do.

I have some Crucial 2133MHz RAM, and a H110M-H mobo..

Would an upgrade to the 7700K on this board be OK? Will NOT be Ocing..

I am back on the fence about what to do, but im thinking if my motherboard is OK for it , getting a 7700K??:confused::confused:

I probably won't enable any kind of MCE/all cores boost on that board,as the VRM section is quite weak, but should be hopefully fine at stock.

The RAM is slow though - some games it won't have an effect, but some it will even compared to 3000MHZ DDR4:

That is with a 4.5GHZ Core i7 6700K which should mirror a Core i7 7700K reasonably well.

However,AFAIK the Ryzen 2600 will be worse effected by slower DDR4 than a Core i7 7700K.

You are wasting your money, doing either. 7700K will give you a 700MHz speed boost, when running at stock, which is pretty significant, but might add only a few FPS in certain games (if that is all you are doing). Price it up at frames per £ spent, and you'll see it's a waste of time, the i5 7500, is fine with an RX 480, wait until the GTX 1070's come back down to £300, then see how man more FPS per £ you'd get.
