Intel bug incoming? Meltdown and Spectre exploits

Well I hope Intel are going to start cutting the price of their processors if we are not going to get advertised performance.

Like's been stated it's not really desktop perf that will be the problem, It's the server space where they will be hit, it's also where the main ££££ is made too

To play devils advocate here. Whats the worst that could happen?
I've had money stolen from my accounts before. 1 call to the bank and 48 hours later the money is returned to me. It's not the end of the world.

Not everyone is that lucky tbh. Also depends on amount too.

Is this something I needto worry about or is it another heartbleed (ie. everyone panics, front page news, affects maybe 1% of the population)?

Hate to say it but it probably effects 90% of the pop. If you have received and applied the various updates from Microsoft(if applicable) + bios update(if applicable) you should be fine.

This is based on you having a Intell CPU that is.

Get a room :p

Jealous ! :p

I can't see it - the only way its going to hit Intel as hard as they are making out is if someone actually successfully exploits these vulnerabilities to do a massive attack of some kind which would result in a lot of blowback for Intel - otherwise they'll just take a bit of a hit and be back to business as usual in a few months.

Not really, if you think about it. Say you run a large data centre/ Cloud whatever. Said update impacts parts of the services you provide. Said service takes a 20% perf hit. Find youi need to add X amount more to cover!

1. Would you be happy, then go and but x amount more intel based to cover
2. Ignore update, later on, be in a week or several years risk a exploit that compromises one of your customers. Could be insainley costly/possible jail due to known flaw.
3. Go AMD. Know the flaw does not effect AMD.Know customers are safe.Know you will not be responsible if another bug/flaw comes to light.

Is it an issue in a game pulling 120+ fps anyway bar your twitch shooters?
I admit its a drop though. Not watched vid, is the higher end I7's hit the same ?

I play PS2 too,but it does seem to run a bit better more recently than many years ago. Apparently they did make the PS4 version more multi-threaded so not sure if that has meant some improvements have been patched in more recently.

Good to know. I may just give PS2 another bash If I can be arsed to boot win, Hate to think the hours I might have in it. I jumped on that on release which seems like an age ago now!
