Hey guys,

Just fitted in my quad core today and checking the temps - Asus probe is giving me about 50C for the processor on idle and 49 for the mobo.. is this a bit high? The room is a bit stuffy/warm, but I don't remember getting temps this high for my AMD X2.

Thanks,

Sul

It is certainly hot and stuffy in my room today, and mine's sitting at 43/42/39/41'C (as reported by speedfan). I'm using a NH-U12F.

Just installed speedfan and core temps are around 40 - 45C

How much will the temps go down as the thermal paste settles? Just installed it today.. read somewhere temps are meant to go down as the paste settles.

Well most people think speedfan underrates somewhat, so it looks like we're both frying tonight!

Maybe 1-2c. Nothing worth considering.

Which cooler are you using?

The Quads really need high-end air or watercooling if you're intending to overclock them.

I'm using the Noctua NH-U12F cooler with arctic silver paste. Not overclocked at the moment, just running at stock speeds.

We're running the same chips with the same heatsinks and thermal paste at the same temperatures...I've not had any problems with crunching all 4 cores (tops out around 62-65'C), but I don't think there's any headroom for overclocking with this setup.

The spec sheet reckons on them peaking out at 62.2'C if I'm reading it correctly. That's pretty well spot on what I've observed.

edit: the spec sheet doesn't seem to like direct linking.

Looks like it’s going to be a bit of carrot and stick with the upcoming quad price reductions as they’re going to need improved cooling.

Can anyone with a quad recommend some effective air cooling?

Cheers

installed my q6600 as well today on asus p5k-e
i fitted the asus silent square pro with arctic silver 5 , and tat reports...90c :O

i am touching the mounting module and its hot.the area between the cooler around the cooler is not that warm, normal temps.

any help?

edit: i removed the hs, and touched it,its warm, not even hot so i guess bios reports wrong temps?
