Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 temperatures

Apparently there is to be a new stepping released (of the Q6600) sometime in July (if I am not mistaken) which has the possibility of lowering temps by 10C, if that is the case will high end air cooling (and possibly lapping) allow you to get a decent OC with the Q6600?

LOL and that doesn't even use more than 2 cores at anywhere near full load.

Need to sort cooling tbh asap.

FSX supports 4 cores now, after SP1.

Lappage!

You need to lap them! :D

4tw!

What temperature differences are you reporting before/after lapping? I'm considering it, but I need to know it's worth the effort!

Doesn't mean it uses them at full load.

I was testing my C2D with it, and the most CPU usage was 75% for the process.

Average was around 55-60%.

So Core 2 was barely used, and if its barely used on a C2D, it aint gonna use the extra two cores on a quad core.

hmm.. I'll run FSX again and see how my cores are being used. I'm pretty sure the activity levels were spiked up on all 4 cores. Will check again and get back to you..

With what i think is 600 or 800 grit I am getting a 5c reduction

I have ordered a lapping kit and intend to do it to around 20-10 micron which should knock off another 2-4c

Just reseated my CPU/heatsink and it's now idling at 40C and doesn't go over 50C under load (according to speedfan and pc probe)

The spec sheet reckons on them peaking out at 62.2'C if I'm reading it correctly. That's pretty well spot on what I've observed.

Ive been doing a bit of research regarding Q6600 max cpu temps, From what I have read so far, the 62.2c max temp is the main cpu temp, not the inside chip individual core temps.
So if you had something like these readings on everest (max load) it should be fine...

CPU - 55c <-----under 62.2c
CPU #1 / Core #1 - 71c
CPU #1 / Core #2 - 72c
CPU #1 / Core #3 - 70c
CPU #1 / Core #4 - 70c

Thats roughly what im getting on load, but my room temp is prob 30c at moment since weathers warmed up
