Intel Core i7 4790 (Haswell Refresh) CPU and Z97 Performance Preview

Great for those making the Haswell leap but certainly no upgrade for those already on the platform.

These minute upgrades from Intel continue...

Don't see what this changes, or goes against anything we didn't already know? We knew this was going to be the case. As in at stock speeds very little will change.

I thought the whole point of it all was the supposed improved overclocking aspect of the 4790K which we have yet to see!

Yep, pointless launch from Intel even in non K variants. Last thing that remains to be seen is the overclocking potential. If 5 GHz isn't commonly achieved with good temps and low voltages (like sandy used to be for example), this will be even more meh.

Its only a refresh not even a tock. The improvements made to the K series sound a lot more interesting.

Pretty crappy really, but the i7 4790 isn't the CPU the majority of people here want reviews on :p

It's just a speed bumped 4770, shocker as it's barely faster :p

The L1 cache speeds seem to have improved dramatically though?

Sandy didn't commonly achieve 5GHZ, not stable anyway.
The new K's need to be hitting 4.8GHZ commonly though to be of any worth.

What a waste of time. Come on AMD bring this new plan of yours forward to give them a kick in the pants to release something worthwhile for a change.

The only interesting thing may be overclocking and temps on the new k series with the improved tim.

If AMD made more competition for Intel we wouldn't see these pointless pathetic incremental refreshes and we would see real advancements.
Getting really tired of this milking tactic, Even the "K" is just going to have slightly better thermals and nothing to write home about over the current 4770K.

AMD rumored to release something new in 2016.. Still a long ways off..

Z97 and 4790K are still good options for those building a mainstream PC this year. Extra compatibility and features in the mobo and better overclocking in the CPU aren't to be sniffed at imho.

If you're an enthusiast, X99 is where it's at. Not long to go now...

K is out around the start of computex so I am told.

X99 September onwards.

Yes 4 x 1.65v is fine.
