Intel: DirectX 12 yields big gains on tablets, other thermally constrained devices

If dx12 has been developed for Xbox one which has ati 7770 gpu if I'm correct does that mean anyone with a hd 7xxx series will be able to use dx12 when it is released for pc then?

In pure hardware terms that's about right but remember the consoles have their own low level API so in terms of actual tangible performance it's a bit higher comparatively to the PC.

The PS4 copes extremely well with 1080p, Killzone was up there with Crysis 3 on PC in terms of graphics for me. The textures were insane.

So there will be no support for dx12 on ati 7000 series for pc?

No body really knows yet.

Whatever AMD and Microsoft do on the consoles there is no grantee that any of it will be brought to Desktop.

Microsoft have no interest in Console - PC API parity as they don't make any money from PC which also eats into their Console echo system.

That's why Consoles have had the better API constantly updated while DirectX has been stuck in 2006.

DX12 PC wasn't even meant to be until Mantle arrived.

AMD has given the organization unfettered access to Mantle and told them, in so many words, "This is how we do it. If you want to take the same approach, go ahead." Khronos is free to take as many pages as it wants out of the Mantle playbook, and AMD will impose no restrictions, nor will it charge any licensing fees.

Looks like the success that MS/AMD had porting Mantle to DX12 has been carried onwards to Khronos too, looking good for GCN users, looks like they'll get ALL the api's.:D

Microsoft could make money from PC gamers, but choose not to.

How?

Game developers are not going to pay into a Subscription based X-Box live system on the PC because they don't have to.

Which means you and I will never be subjected to an X-Box live subscription.

Hopeful Khronos get on and do this.

It will also keep Microsoft in check.

IF Microsoft do decide to make Windows 9 Subscription based and make DX12 for Windows 9 only then with a DX12 like API on Linux it should be pretty easy for Game Developers to port over, thus kick-starting a Linux Gaming revolution as few will want to pay Microsoft for the same thing they can get for free in a competing OS.

If the Windows 9 rumours being subscription based were true, it may not be now :D

Looks like with MS starting DX12 before EA/Dice started on Mantle has really given them great results as we can see. Hat's off to MS on this one.
