how come shops that sold computer games with the wrong price label on used to sell me them for that price?

Out of goodwill, i remember reading it costs 6 times more to gain a new customer than keep an existing one. They sell you it to keep you happy, in the hope you will shop with them again...you have no legal right.

Not trying to hijack this thread but seemed the appropriate place to ask. Is a LGA771 processor pin compatible with a LGA775 motherboard? I ask because a mate just had a xeon 5320 delivered with a s775 workstation board and I am fairly certain its not right but I dont know enough to say for sure. Hope someone can clarify for me!
They're not compatible. You'll have to get a LGA771 board to use a LGA771 chip.

Update

It's been shipped.

I should get it tomorrow.

LMFAO

I read their Ts & Cs though...

"If within 14 days of accepting your order a pricing error is found in respect of any or all of the goods you have ordered, we will notify you as soon as possible detailing the mis-priced goods and offering you the option of... blah blah blah"

Lemme see... I ordered on 27th, so if they don't contact me by 10th April it's mine.

Best I sit on it till then, and in the meantime do a bit of research into cheap Xeon workstation motherboards

:D

I'd rather just sit on it and see.

I had taken '14 days after acceptance of order' to mean 14 days after I placed my order and received a confirmation email, but I did read somewhere that 'acceptance' might mean when payment was taken, or when the item was picked, or even when the item was shipped/received.

So I've left it till now to make sure. It's two weeks tomorrow since I received it. I think Ill be safe then to whack it on ebay, though I doubt it'll fetch more than £150. Still, not a bad return from a £2.78 investment :D

After looking at the price of Xeon motherboards I decided to give making a new system incorporating this beast of a processor a miss, unless anyone can come up with something with a 16x PCI-express slot for under £150. But would I have to get another Xeon 5130? The box says it has to be used in a dual processor configuration.

Looks like you bagged a bargain. Good result.

LOL

I think 'bargain' is a slight understatement in this case.

More like 'criminally theft-like purchase due to webmonkey typo' sums it up better.

Been looking at mobos and stuff, considering building a new workstation. Here's the spec... is it worth the expense to upgrade from my current rig (see sig)

Supermicro X7DAE mobo - £300
Second Xeon 5130 - £200
Crucial 2gb ECC memory - £150

Might stick with my 7600GT, but possibly upgrade to 8800GTS.

I'd use it Windows XP Pro for video editing and graphics, as well as web development and gaming. Will XP Pro take advantage of the 2 x Dual Core Xeons? I'd probably also try install Mac OSX on a seperate drive for a bit of Garageband music production etc. A Hackintosh Pro at less than half the price of Apples anyone?

My current rig will become my Media Centre PC plugged into a 26" LCD TV via VGA - would be nice to have a fairly fast PC for all my media stuff, TV recording and gaming from my sofa with an Xbox 360 controller :) (replacing the slightly clunky and crash-prone AMD64 3000+ machine with integrated graphics I'm currently using)

Any thoughts on the matter folks? I'm not rolling in cash at the moment but there's no rush to upgrade.
