Intel E5400 CPU reviews and info please.

If you want a more or less certain 4Ghz then you are looking at a E8000 series cpu. To be honest the extra 280mhz will make very little difference. Once past 3.6Ghz the gains get smaller and smaller.

I have been offered a full system with an E8400 in it for £185, it's only a tower with 160GB HDD and 2GB ram etc. Think it's worth buying that and dropping my E5300 in it then selling the PC for £150ish?

Oh PC also has a full Windows Vista Business license, and also 2 years warranty left on it with the manufacturer.

I`ve been playing around with a e5300 r0 today, its just a build for my 6 year old boy. Might have to keep it and get him another processor, it hits 4.03ghz on 1.34v, temps are 33/56. Have been using intel linpack to test for stability, linpack pushes the temp much higher than 56c though but is good indicator for stability and temps stay ok for normal day use with a stock cooler, will run longer tests tomorrow.

Hey guys,

Reading this thread has inspired me to get an E5200!

Currently building a HTPC/occasional gamer, have just bought an Asus Maximus 2 Gene MATX motherboard which I imagine will get a lot out of that little chip, I was kinda thinking why spend lots more on higher end CD2 or quad, when an E5200 will go like stink when pushed, and maybe can pick up a higher end CPU when cheaper next year?

To be cooled by Scythe mini Ninja air by the way, in a Lian Li V351 case, so maybe not as much scope for pushing it?

Will let you know how I get on!

Cheers,
JP.

I wish you luck with your rig JP, that motherboard does look like a real winner for features and performance, lets just hope you don't get a stinking chip ;)

I am cooling my CPU with a Scythe Ninja Rev. 2 with only a 1200rpm fan on it, load temps at 1.375v are around 66c full load, although it is cooler than normal for this time of year, so I expect them to go up to 72c when the summer arrives (in 2010 :D)
