Intel i7 4790K temperature question.

RUN ``CORE TEMP`` at idle and twice while running Heaven Benchmark and you'll tell instantly if it's ok..... it's about 22 to 26 degrees idle and maybe about 42 degrees in Heaven................GPUs about 65 and 70 degrees

but to really get this right, you need a well ventilated case to start with, with all your cables well out of the way of the Mobo

Thanks for that :)

So it hasn't got a lifespan so to speak, cool. I've been watching some youtube vids on how to clean the cooler and apply the paste. Seems straight forward enough.

You mentioned about balancing the tension on the screws , so thats critical I presume.I take it that's just hand tight with a screwdriver.

Thanks for the advice and the link mate. Ordering some now.

yea you need to tighten it down evenly, but Megahalems is dead easy to work on, it's so easy to remove and install.

just make sure both mating surfaces are cleaned well with accetone first, then you apply the paste and the cooler is screwed down.

the CPU is lowered onto the pins, dont install the CPU at an angle, just lower it parallel to the socket, and let it drop the last few MMs.

do not touch those damned socket pins  because that is a total and utter disaster if you do so.

but the CPU itself is pretty strong and easy to handle, just as long as you clean it really well before installing it.

i put the paste on the CPU when it's in my hand, i then drop it lightly into the socket, i find it easier this way.

Wait a sec TEST REPORT : 80c maximum.

with his cpu and default speed to me that still seems highish for the type of cooler he is using that is.
if the cpu is preoverclocked then ignore but if its not then 80c is still high.

80c is not uncommon even at stock tbh, it will depend on what program was used to test max temps. Any stress test with AVX, 80c is quite normal. Both 4790k's ive owned have hit the mid 90's at stock using p95.

dont use Prime  i just use Heaven Benchmark, MSI AB and Core Temp

but to test the rig the best is DAZ 3D Graphics rendering...........because i've just found out that i dont have nearly enough RAM for Graphics............ it has to be about 16gb, but i had only 8gb

the CPU is about 45 degrees in Sniper Elite 3 Bench and about the same in Heaven, so that's ok for me, but in DAZ 3D it'll deffo be more

i dont know Titan X will handle rendering, but it's gotta be better than a single GTX 970

I had a similar thing with a pre-built AMD based PC from OCUK.

They sent me out a new HSF and it solved the problem straight away never over heated in the next 4-5years I had it running.

In fact its now the wifes WoW PC and still running fine :)

I had exactly the same problem!!!! Read This!

The Gigabyte BIOS version will be V1 or V2 i guess and this will need updating!

I had the same issue for months and just left it when i stress tested it went to 98 and idle was 30. I updated BIOS version using gigabytes automatic updater. Find it on the Web or contact gigabyte for this.

After the V-core was set lower in the newer version of BIOS and it could run my i7 4790k at lower V-cores and this lowered the temps to 48 on stress test and 19 on idle!
