hi there, i recently got an overclocked computer from OCUK and my temps were reading 50c-55c on idle and 70-80 on load. are these temps safe?

Specs:
Intel i7 920 4.00ghz
6gb corsair dominator ddr3 ram
nvidia gtx 295
titan fenrir cpu cooler

That's fine. The idle looks a tad high, but no biggie.
My system in the sig runs 44C on idle and about 70C fully loaded. IBT would take this to ~80C.

my room temp is pretty high thats why the idles are a bit higher. thanks for letting me know :)

Your clock is higher too - so the chances are you have more voltages going through your vCore (as getting those last extra 200MHz to get to 4GHz can require a significant voltage boost.)

Either way, as stated earlier, for an i7 920 running @ 4GHz your temps are fine - you can breathe easy.

Those temps are fine mate, pretty good loads actually compared to other peoples I have seen at 4GHz with the Fenrir.

Some people are hitting like 88c at 4GHz with that cooler.

Are your load temps from when you have been running Prime95 or LinX/IBT?

i ran prime95 again and now my temps are going to 87-88c. can this be because the thermal paste needs 200 hours to work properly?

Yes if you are using AS-5 it take's about 200HRs to settle, get some AC MX-2 one of the top THERMAL PASTE'S clean heatsink + cpu then apply
and you can overclock straight away + better temp's(AS-5 is old skool)

Yeah, your clock is quite high, therefore your idle temps are going to be high, also you say room temps are high too.

I also have the same cooler too, great cooler.

I have set my CPU to stock speeds now with power saving on now, reason being, I have the enough grunt in this chip for anything that needs speed, as does your chip.

My idle temps are 29-31°C. I would in your case clock it down to maybe 3.2 - 3.5, you will still get programmes loading up fast.
