Intel i7 Haswell-E right around the corner

I get bored ;)
Chop and change hardware nearly as much as you. Don't even play games :p

Doesn't that mean you will actually be downgrading your performance, then changing again before you ever see the benefit of hex core or DDR4?

hmmm finally something to replace my trusty 2600k with

Haswell-E will be ~10% faster per core than SB at the same MHz, though obviously the are more cores.

Personally I don't think it's a worthwhile upgrade unless you specifically need >4 HT cores.

Kind of expecting this upgrade to outlast my previous one

I don't even feel I need to upgrade my i7920 if it was working perfectly

This could very well be my last upgrade in raw performance for cpu.
If this lasts 4 years or more we could well be staying into streamed games etc.
I might not even play games at all by then. I play far less now than I did 4 years ago.

I wonder how many on the forum actually need more than say an i7 920?
I doubt many.
I do also wonder if costs are increasing more with laws of diminishing returns.
There will be a need for these high end systems but I do wonder that in the consumer section. Are sales down year on year?

AMD gave up, Intel have been milking us since then hardcore.

I was hoping enough of these meager speed ups had accrued since my 2600K for it to be worth upgrading to X99, hearing it's 10% is very offputting.
