Intel or AMD ?

Been watching a lot of You Tube videos on the FX-8350 and most seem to think for Video Editing its a great chip to have,so I'm leaning more towards this now. If I'm not going to be overclocking this chip is the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P AMD okay. Or is it worth paying £10 more for the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD

Or just go with the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P AMD

Ive got the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 board and its a good board. its the newer chipset I personally would pay the extra £10 but that's just me.

plus through time it would give youan upgrade option if you got chance of a 9xxx chip

I was thinking the same to be honest. What the hell its only 10 quid after all

:D

@ jbh110tdi

Are you overclocking on this chip ? If so i hear they get a bit hot if run to high

Ive had it running 24/7 on 4.5Ghz stable and the temps were fine but that's under a H80i cooler. there is a few boys run them at 4.8 24/7 but I never saw the need.

as its set up as my second rig the now its running at 4.2 under a titan fenrir evo and again the temps are fine on it.
under load it goes to high 50's low 60's and idles at 19c but the idle I would take with a pinch of salt as the amd chips can tell lies low down ive been told

In everyday use do you find there is much difference from 4Ghz to 4.2Ghz. I think if i did clock it then 4.2Ghz would be as far as i wanted to go with it just to be on the safe side. I just hate spending weeks doing all the stress testing stuff.

on everday use no. in games ive noticed a few extra FPS I would imagine doing video editing would give it an extra kick as well with a light oc
the 8350 turbo's at 4.2 so rather than messing around with the turbo I just set it to run at 4.2 24/7 and it was sweet.
I did have it running at 4.4 at one point when it was my main rig before I got the H80i and it was a sweet spot it ran well.

How easy is it to get to 4.2 on the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD Board. Is it just a matter of setting it toTurbo

When you get your chip and board, disable them two things, set LLC to meduim, save and reboot to get your true cpu vcore.

I will post some screen shots later of what to disable aswell as the ud3p is the same bios as the 990XA-UD3.

Go to bios press del on boot up, then go to advance voltage settings.
zysPlGV.jpg

Then vcore loadline calibration.
fa1LbQF.jpg

Set that to medium, leave the rest alone.

Press esc, then advance frequency settings.

Go to extreme memory profile (xmp) set it to profile 1.
then advanced cpu core features.
tYzmqff.jpg

Copy my settings apart from the cpu clock ratio put that to 22 while leaving vcore at stock.
press f10 to save and exit.

Download intel burn test avx, run that at very high settings for 20 rounds if you pass you will be sable but make sure all the number end with e-002
if you fail it add more vcore.

Downlad hwinfo64 to check temps and make sure temperature 3 does not pass 62c

If you need any other help just ask

Thank you so much,I really appreciate you doing that. It will make setting up this board so much easier. What kind of Temps are you getting with this board under full load

I have the ud3p and have a custom loop.

Specs in sig now, cpu does not go past 56c (when 100% load ) with 2 gpu's under water aswell.

When gaming the cpu mainly around 37-45c

any pictures of youre set up Jamie?

I would love to do a custom loop but I honestly don't have the time :(
