Intel Pentium G4620: A new budget CPU king?

I can't see how. Intel aren't just going magic a chipset and CPU from thin air and even if AMD sell every chip they make for twice what it worth will Intel even care?

Intel already have 6-core chips out, all they have to do is make 6800K/6850K more affordable in the mean time and then when mainstream 6-core is ready they can just make 8-core the low end on their enthusiast line.

I assume if they wanted to rush out a chip, they could use a 6 core 2011 with no IGP and mount it on 1151 substrate, making a 6 core 1151 chip with no IGP.

No what I was meaning is if they suddenly needed to rush out a CPU to compete on the mainstream platform.
They could mount the 6C12T die from a socket 2011 chip onto the socket 1151 housing, making a hybrid 6C12T socket 1151 chip without an IGP, seeing as the 6C12T dies don't have an IGP.

I don't think they will do this, but I expect they could if they wanted too.

I doubt it - I think AMD will be behind in single threaded performance,so AMD will have to price it a bit lower than Intel equivalents and Intel will only really need to drop prices a bit to compensate.

Personally I think Coffee Lake 6C/12T is more the reaction to Zen.

Well Cannon lake is most likely a 4+3 and a 6+2 design, so both will come with an IGP with the 6 core offering less GPU.

We have to keep in mind that Intel's desktop chips are built from the mobile design so will include an IGP from now on. Every Intel desktop chip is now served up from either a laptop or Xeon line of CPU.

If you don't want an APU you have to look at the Xeon designs. That said I can't see socket 1151 getting a 6 core 12 thread chip with or without an IGP unless Intel are getting paid for a new motherboard too. Soc 1151-2 anyone?

The Intel Pentium G4560 could be the pick of the Kaby Lake bunch for bang for buck. £65 for 3.5Ghz and hyper threading 2/4 cores/threads. This seems the only well priced chip out the entire Kaby Lake line up. Might be ideal for a budget build. AMD might also offer something in this segment soon..

Trying out the G4560, 2 cores / 4 threads. 3.5Ghz clock speed. £65 from OCUK. Fancied this for a budget build.

Surprised how capable this chip is. Went into existing mobo no problem. Tried a few games so far all worked fine.

I will be pairing this chip with a GTX 750 Ti for a budget gaming build.

Weird this, it's pretty nippy around desktop, browsing, gaming etc. Honestly can't tell difference between this or higher end chips so far. I bet if I ran FPS counter I have taken a hit but without that I can't tell xD

Is that instead of your 6700k?

No it's not for me, I'm putting this together for someone else. But using it myself until Ryzen drops in a few weeks. Then I'll be passing it on.

I'm looking at building a Ryzen setup with some faster DDR4 and either GTX 1080 Ti or AMD VEGA. Whole new system. Good lil stop gap this is though. Can't fault this chip, especially that price.

You're selling your 6700K for Ryzen? Doesn't it make sense to actually wait to see performance?
