Intel® Core™ i3/i5 stuff up at OcUK Store

I understand that the i3/i5 with H55 motherboard will allow HD audio bitstream.

This may sound dumb, but I take it I would have to use the on-board HDMI to achieve this and I would have to switch the cables if I wanted to my ATI graphics card (4850) for gaming?

*just a guess*

Hybrid Crossfire comes into play to put graphics card through on board HDMI...maybe?

Just a guess, good question though. Will have to find out answer. :)

Yes, the 4850 supports them but does not bitstream them to a receiver so the TrueHD/DTS-MA lights up instead of Multich (this on an Onkyo receiver). They have to be decoded by software which ends up being downsampled.

Only 5xxx series, Xonar/Auzentech HD Audio card and Clarkdale support bitstream of HD codecs.

Do you think laptops will come out with core i3s? they have integrated graphics in the processor therefore less parts needed in the laptop itself. Makes sense but will it happen?

Oh ok. Hmmmm then.

All the reviews etc have been done without a discrete graphics card. Just the graphics card in the processor.

Hybrid Crossfire would be my answer if the motherboard supports them.

It's called Arrandale.

clicky

Woah at the prices, really stupidly priced chips unfortunately, if the intergrated were anything to write home about might be worth it.

THe i5 6xx's are just entirely pointless when you can get a twice as fast chip for less. THe i3's are closer to useful for an el cheapo machine that can do HD, but then you can pick up a £40 cpu and a £20 discrete gpu, have more power, more versatility and cost less.

Its a needed step I guess but Intel really need a Larabee derivitive, with a proper unified core, without the memory controller separated from the main core, even if on the same chip, then you'll be looking at some serious value from the chip.

Guess it will be a good couple years, if not more, before intergrated gpu's can really be treated like an extension of normal CPU's FPU units, so it can seemlessly be used by software, any software.

Thing is I'm all for overclocking, but not for the sake of it. I'll overclock for fun but wouldn't waste the power of 5Ghz per core and the voltage to go with it, when nothing would require more than 3.5Ghz. When I had a 1.4Ghz tbird, i clocked it up and saw a real world advantage, since quads became somewhat the norm, I just find nothing I do actually requires the overclock I can achieve, a minor almost free overclock at stock voltage, I quite literally see no improvement from another 600-800Mhz in any game I've played.

£113, for a dual core chip, when you can pick up quads for around £70 that will do 3.5Ghz and eat anything most of us need.

Those of us that actually need cpu power, people who do work on their comp, time sensitive stuff, number crunching, video editing and the like, again you'd be insane not to pick up a i5 750 minimum.

A lot of reviews agreed the i5 versions are rather boring, the i3's are nice, but priced too high, its a great bonus to get an i3 for a very small increase in cost over alternate intergrated solutions, but being a lot more expensive than far faster intergrated makes them really quite stupid. AMD have got their next gen intergrated out in not to long aswell.

They are good CPUs but they are highly priced.

Also i dont get why intel will not offer this core without the integrated graphics...

I dont like the idea of paying for integrated graphics that i will not use >_>

They will be offering these without the IGP, but later in the year, they obviously decided the IGP where more important to get to market first.

Most will just plump for the extra 40 for the 750...makes more sense.

65 quid for the i3 530 puts it in the correct price bracket imo.

And the 6xx series are just odd in the market.

So, do you need a special mobo if using the intel with IGP?

Only H55, H57 and Q57 chipsets will be able to use the integrated graphics. The CPU will work in normal P55 boards without the integrated graphics working, but you will probably need a BIOS update.

Excellent pricing on the clarkdale with the acompanying board.

Just need to poke around and find out how good the integrated gpu is with DXVA.

Exciting for HTPC builders, boring for the rest of us.

You are not paying for integrated graphics as these cpus are the same prices as the ones they are replacing.
