Morning,i am in the process of building an intel z77 system from my amd set up,at the moment i have a 64gb ssd for my o/s and a 500gb hdd that is for steam etc, this seams to work ok.with the irs from what ive read you install everything on the hdd and use the ssd as cache, will this be faster or should i keep things as they are, what have you done

I put the OS on the hard drive as the SSD's have a reputation for being tempremental and you could find yourself re-installing your OS every time the SSD needs a firmware upgrade if you put it on the SSD

The OS on the ssd is faster, caching works really well,if your pushed for space is use caching if not stick the OS on the ssd, trim will maintain the drive for you

I've used both ways and currently running the OS on the ssd

Trim restores performance on the drive lost through high usage,win7/8 supports it and it should be enabled automatically, just let pc idle or log off user account and let trim do its thing for a few hours or overnight and restart pc

I think you're mistaking trim for garbage collection. TRIM is something that happens continusly everytime you tell OS to delete something on the SSD. Garbage collection is a feature native to a particular SSD controller, that works independent of the OS.
