What are your opinions on Intel SSD's? I am thinking of getting the 40Gb SSD as part of my new build for OS.
 
i have one in my htpc and i think its fantastic :), the machine boots quicker and i can be watching something quicker than i could waiting on my bluray player starting.

in a main rig though you may run out of space, remember to move all your document folders and stuff to another larger drive.
 
I have one of the 40 GB in my laptop and two X25-Ms in my desktop. Fantastic drives and you will really notice the performance gain. There are faster drives out now but the Intels are still holding their own and have a proven track record of reliability. My oldest, purchased just over a year ago, is still going strong with no problems at all.
 
SSD's in general are very good, I have them both in my main PC and laptop - and the Intels tend to be quite highly rated.
 
i have a x25-m in desktop, decided to go with this after a bit of reading up on ssd's.
as ziggy4 says there are faster one's out now but the intel's got good reviews.
 
Got the 40GB drive in my HTPC, love it. Also running a RAID0 of two 80GB X25-M G2's in my Main PC.
The Intels feel noticable snappier than my 64GB Indilinx drive, which is now in my laptop. I'm on the fence between snapping up a 160GB drive for my dad on the MM or waiting three or four more months for the third generation.
 
Zarf, the 160s can be had for a little less now and with the latest firmware they have improved sequential writes of over 100 MB/s. I suspect the gen 3s are going to demand a premium price when they appear, at least until the "new toy" hysteria calms down.

I completely agree with this - i got my first 160 about 4 months ago and i kid you not it is absolutely blistering! i dont see the need to keep documents/pictures on your main drive - if you manage it properly you will never get frustrated again!

I'm not too sure on this yet, it all depends on whether they are keeping SATA6 (and an associated speed increase) up their sleeves. If it's a SATA3 product, with the specs as released, it'll probably be coming in at very attractive price, probably close to the coveted £1/GB.
Sandforce have already announced the speeds of their next product, and from the looks of things even if Intel do have SATA6 there wouldn't be a decisive performance advantage that would demand a premium.
 
I have one in my main pc and love it.. Just got a 40Gb for my HTPC to accompany the 400gb 2.5" mainly to hold the os/apps and i am using media browser so hoping for no lag in displaying album art...
 
i have a pair of x25-m in raid0 and there awesome....was advised not to raid them due to so called lack of trim support but theve never missed a beat in the 6 months ive had them raided.....i think trim is supported but intel wont stick there neck out and say it is till there 100% confident
 
What do you guys think of the Corsair 40Gb SSD's? I have just checked out the benchmarks out between the to and the Corsair seems to beet the Intel at everything. The Corsair is only £10 more but is the reliability just as good as the Intel?
